The trouble I had, Stu, finding an elephant for that shot. Seriously, it was done using a picture tube in Corel Paint Shop Pro X2. Like Mel, I'd like to have a go at Masks and Layers but they are a bit daunting to say the least. I think an image like the above would be better using those methods.

The quality of your image was great, Dave. I wasn't trying to be critical. I thought you had intentionally made the elephant appear to be floating in the air. It really does look great like that.
I must confess that I'm no expert when it comes to masking and cutting things out and I often resort to using to software packages to achieve a single effect. There is a really easy tool in Corel Paint Shop Pro (Ultimate) Photo X2, the Background Eraser Tool that I use to cut around items so that I just end up with the cut out item on a transparent background. Then I save that as a Photoshop PSD file (yes, from PSP still). Then later when I open up that file in my old Photoshop Elements 5.0, drag it on top of another file that I've already opened as the background in there and it automatically treats the 'masked' file as a layer. (It's not really a mask in the Photoshop sense but this technique is quite easy if you have the luxury of owning the two packages.)
I recently saw a really nice tool for masking and cutting out from Topaz Labs. It's called Topaz ReMask and you can see a video tutorial of it in action if you read carefully through
this page.
However, it is a plugin that only currently works with the full Photoshop. It looks like a dream to use. The good news is that Topaz Labs are hoping to release a version that will work with less powerful programs like Photoshop Elements (and PSP?) before the end of the year.

Oh, they've now added a few more videos. Worth taking a look at each of them. The first one is a bit too fast and might look confusing.

I didn't think for one minute you were Stu. I usually put a smiley icon next to a comment if I think it might be taken the wrong way but it never occurred to me this time. All your comments are helpful and are very welcome. Much more welcome than my wife's actually, she said she wasn't sure which one was the elephant.

Hi Adee
I struggle with Shelly photo (above), simply because I want to rotate anti-clockwise 90degrees. Zoneally artistically correct, perhaps a flatter horizontal version is better imo.
Your best photo imo is chelsea window4. Iconic and it says something. (pls post so we can see again)
Just my opinion....

Thanks for rotation Adee. It transforms the photo.
For me I'm comfortable with both these photos now.
Keep up the good work!!
Is it OK if I print out on my kodak printer?
I'll be happy to pay you a 'personal use' copyright fee if you like....
I'll put up beside my David Bailey artwork..
Nice work Adee
