Maybe there is some ingredient in it that is not approved to be sold "over the counter" over here.
I know whenever I go to another country, I never buy or take any type of over the counter pain reliever for a headache or anything else (other than what I bring with me). I know of people that have bought things in other countries that are perfectly fine there, but are not allowed here. LOL, especially when you're subjected to drug testing for your job , it's not a good thing.

OK, what is Savlon? A salve, obviously, but what kind of ointment is it? I should look it up and see the ingredients. What makes it special? I am curious about it. My 'wound' is better, but not completely. I bought some Arnica gel and hope it will help with the bruise, but I continue to put Neosporin on the actual gash, as it still looks fiery and nasty. I suppose I should have a doc look at it, because it looks a bit infected. It is in such an awkward place, hard to show anyone really. Thanks for the sympathy notes though.

June - I’m sorry to hear about the mishap - and hope that you’re feeling better very soon. Here’s the Wikipedia article about Savlon: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Savlon - It is a popular antiseptic cream here - and, whilst many “swear by this product” (me included!) I guess, as long as another product has those main ingredients then it should be OK.
I would get it checked out - to make sure what you’re doing is right and everything's OK - if nothing else that will give you peace of mind.
I recently managed to kick myself on the shin (not easy - you have to be really talented to do that!) - bit of a nasty wound. Treated it - cleaning the wound, light coating of Savlon, etc. But it then started to feel as though red-hot needles were being pushed into it; so made appointment to see the Nurse. She felt that what I was doing was correct, that it wasn't infected and that the pains were part of the normal healing process.

June, there are many antiseptic creams and lotions on the market however what I like about savlon is it is very gentle and suits me. If I have a sore spo,t a chafe or graze I put some savlon on and by next day it feels so much easier,I t ceretainly works for my skin.
The only problem with a wound like yours is you do not want to heal it up before any infection is out otherwise you just heal in the infection with no means of escape
Trigger I like the mental picture I have of you kicking yourself on the shin it gives me a real John Cleese like thought
