To add to the fun i notice there is going to be no right turn into waveney road for 5 weeks which will mean all traffic going through station square now that will be fun. Maybe old spice will know what thats about.

I see the badly informed Chief Executive of WDC a Mr Baker is in the EDP today saying that he and his band of road closure specialists knew nothing about the sewer works. He should read Lowestoft Online more frequently,he'd have spotted Vinnyboys post weeks ago!.

Maybe they informed Mr Baker by e-mail.Big mistake I'd have thought,he's never repied to any I've sent him. They are blocking the A12 which is a main trunk road and have to get all sorts of permits etc,I simply don't believe he didn't know.

Why is it being done without permission? I'm sure AW are doing it with all the permissions they need, applied for at least 12 weeks in advance. If not, they wouldn't be digging the road at all.
The point is that they don't need any permissions from WDC, and don't even need to let them know, except out of courtesy. The permissions and coordination of works are carried out by The Highways Agency (if trunk road) and Suffolk County Council as the highway authority.
In case anyone wants to see it, the road closure order is here --> http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2012/106/pdfs/uksi_20120106_en.pdf

I assume they are only temporary reinstated at the moment. It's usual practice so that the backfilled ground has a chance to settle. Also, it means that the surfacing contractor can come in at the end of the works and do all the permanent reinstatement in one go.
Also, they're not works for AW but Northumbrian Water. (Essex & Suffolk)
And if they're not temporary then they are truly horrendous!

FC I used to love that cavalcade of bikes, still like the excellent carnival it seems there's no place for them today.Shame. I bought the journal and did spot one odd thing. In the planning notices it says application has been received for planning permission to change No1 Battery Green Road from a restaurant to offices.(Conservation area and all that ) My old eye balls aren't what they used to be but even I can see the change from a restaurant to offices (for windcat boats) has already been done. The planning office seem once again to make things up as they go along.

I loved it to OS used to really get a good feel to see all those rufty tufty bikers riding along some in crazy costume to raise money for charity
I do sincerely believe the planning dept make their own rules up as they go along I know someone who pointed out to them that a certain business up and running for some time had previously been refused planning permission They were very interested and thanked my friend for the information but I see a few years down the line the business not only is still going but has expanded considerably

anybody notice the bit in the Journal about Mark Elliot Furniture closing with branches in Southwold and Norwich.
The closure is a bit sad for the staff, but the history is very strange.
They went into administration in 2010, and were bought out and re-emerged, phoenix like as MEF manufacturing, then this company went into administration and was sold to ME Beccles and ME Stanford.
Each time a Limited Company shuts up shop, their debts belong to that company, so the new one, with such similar titles start anew, then go into administration again, and then start up again - each time with a clean sheet, but the debts of the old companies don't get carried forward.
I have always thought this a terrible thing, because it's their suppliers who lose out - but very often the very same suppliers trade with them again, in the hope they make a go of it and they'll get new business.
I did a job last year for a training company - somebody gave them my name for a rush job, so I went down to London, at my own expense, and did the training. Then they went into administration and I didn't get paid my fee or my own out of pocket expenses. They then re-emerged with a very similar name and asked me to do some more, with the strong hint that if I did, I might then get the money for the first one. I responded with two words, the second of which was stuffed!
Same Directors, same address, same telephone number - but a totally 'new' company, taking the assets, but not the debts of the previous one. This practice stinks!

I recorded the last cavalacade,I put a sign up saying "Give us a rev please" on the shop and for an hour or more they did to rounds of applause to the people watching.A great spectacle to watch and hear. I give up with this planning department, they've put all sorts of obstructions in my way since I've been here yet allow the chosen few to do as they please and bend over backwards to help them. The old pals act maybe. I know what paulears means.I knew someone who specialised in opening companies and then going bankrupt after salting away money. The last time of doing so he owed a lot of money to two brothers, market traders from London having taken them for a few quid them before with a different trading name. They caught up with him after giving him ample warning about their rather unique debt collecting methods.I had no sympathy with him,he got his just deserts (which for some time he had to eat through a straw).

The council have decided to do something constructive about roadworks in the town. They have appointed a special officer to take care of things. Everytime a hole appears on the roads they'll send him And he'll look into it BOOM BOOM.

I have heard today that the scope of works have actually finished now, but the roadworks havent been taken away as the Council hasnt paid the contractor yet. If this is true, just goes to show what level of competence these departments operate at. You would never get away for performance like that in the Private sector. You would be out the door.

That story doesn't sound much like the way business works. I don't think it's the Council that's eligible to pay anyway. They don't pay for Anglian Water's sewer maintenance, do they? Surely a contractor would submit a bill to whoever is responsible for paying and get paid in a few month's time as any anybody else would?

Are the contractors saying pay us or we'll keep blockading your town? I'd have thought leaving their gear their would be clocking up more costs that maybe won't get paid?

Suffolk CC now saying they could look after the bridge better than the Highways Agency. Obviously Guy McGregor must be an expert bridge engineer to be able to make that statement.
It not the HA's fault that the bridge needs extra maintenance. It's working beyond it's design life, so many things will wear out and need replacing. The problem is not going to get better. We won't get a new bridge, and certainly won't get a third road crossing (as it's not of enough benefit). So how on earth can SCC think they'd look after it better?

A load of piffle from SCC. Given the fist up they've made of the road layout,so that a car so much as backfiring causes a traffic jam three miles long I wouldn't trust them to be in charge of the bridge. WDC use the water board as a scapegoat and now SCC are using the Highways agency as one, both the councils really know its their mistakes that are at the root of the towns perpetual traffic problems but will not put their hands up. They're fooling nobody.

If SCC had even the slightest clue about the bridge, then they would know that the HA do not maintain it, it is contracted out to the port owners!

Yes they certainly do it alright 728 since they messed about with it in 2009 its never been the same its a complete shambles and i for one blame the HA who hired the idiots who took weeks and months to put the new duffed up hydraulics in the bridge which now makes it open and close a lot slower and it forever goes wrong more than ever before.

The works on the sewer seem to have finished but the cones are still in p-lace. Yesterday I set a new personal record for the 400 yards as the crows fly trip from the bridge to my back door.It took me twenty five minutes. In the days when Suffolk Road was open to traffic it used to take me under two. WDC say they want shops in the town centre then stop anyone getting to them, have they ever wondered why so many have moved out since their last round of alterations?. I've still got some lumber and old stock to clear then I can close up for the last time, the whole road was full of businesses and offices when I moved in.Now its flats, bed sits that are mainly DHSS and companies giving grants and courses to the out of work. Progress.

Thanks Vinny,I don't feel sorry for myself,I've made a living in the shop but I feel sorry for the town and angry about whats been done to it. I can't think of a single thing the council has done that has made things better other than for the buy to let landlords and a select few who are very well off already. For the decent hard working people of this town they've done nothing what so ever and should feel thoroughly ashamed of themselves. If they had put half as much energy into sorting out the towns problems as they've put into grandise schemes that benefit only themselves or a minority interest the town would have benefitted greatly.

Apparently the traffic lights are broken thats why the road hasn't been opened fully. I'm wondering, the big chief at WDC said he hadn't had notice of all this,he said if he had,he'd have been able to take steps to minimise disruption. He's now had nearly five weeks, other than moan and get a few headlines whats he done?.

You stayed as long as you could..and now you've been made to leave by idiot WDC..
WDC has made it impossible for any shop to operate on your stretch down from the dock entrance...
There must be a reason for them to do that..
BTW, I dont think 'Swingbridge' meant that as an insult..
