The man has built my last 5 desktops...

He will ask you what you want it for...and then tell you the cheapest option...

A lot of people buy PCs, way too expensive for what they actually use them for..

In the 15yrs i have used him...I have never had one complaint...and no...I dont work for him..or get any gain...

Except...

Tell him 'East End Paul' sent you...You'll get a faster turnaround...

He's a no BS kind of bloke...Been around computers since they started...Know his stuff and will bluntly tell you that you don't need half the stuff you thought you did...

Dont buy 'off the shelf'...Getting one 'built' for you can work out a lot cheaper...and without the crap that comes with 'store' bought PCs...and will do the job perfectly...

I think what SD is saying is that she paid £700 for her computer plus her 'old' one as a trade-in which she must have valued at about £300 making the total cost for her new one £1,000.   She also has a laptop which she bought second hand and she will be considering an iPad (not iPod as she wrote) for her next one.

Jamesw82...

RE: Northbridge Computers...

When discussing what i (thought) needed on my new PC...Mark (the owner of Northbridge) has told me to 'stop talking and just listen' on many occasions..

He will always ask..'What do you want to do with the PC'...

You tell him what you think you need...and he will ask you...'Do you really need that'...and so on..

He will explain why you don't...or 'do' need that certain bit..

Get your PCs built (whatever shop you prefer but i totally trust Northbridge and Mark and his staff)...You get a one to one service..plus you can telephone the shop..and get advice over the phone...Plus you got a 'real' face to talk to...as in 'YOU built it...YOU fix it' kind of way..

I've used Northbridges services, since he opened over 10yrs ago...for my business, family and for my own use...

I've had desktops built for my family £250 from Northbridge...perfectly capable of expansion...Perfectly capable of surfing the web, Youtube..etc..etc..And also complete work systems costing a few thousand...

The man is honest to the point of being 'blunt'...

That is why he is still open and still busy..and that's why i wouldnt use anyone else..

Snowdrop...

I apologise...But once again, i dont know what you mean with your post above...

I just dont understand...Honestly..

If the comment is addressed to me...Then, i can assure you, i do not have 'tunnel vision' about Lowestoft...

I take it as i find it...I have only East End of London..to compare Lowestoft to...

The rest of my extended family live in the East End...Where i used to live for over 35yrs..So i visit them...a lot..

I'm just telling it, how i see it...And when i find an honest, Lowestoft trader...(and what this section is about) I just posted about it...

If i find this Lowestoft trader is 'honest'..then i think i should tell people about it...and WHY i think he's one of the best round here...

Just i like think PBF Blinds (of Lowestoft) do a good job and are honest..

Just like i think the Butchers in Hollingsworth Rd will cut your meat exactly how you ask it to be cut..before he weighs it..

Just like the Asian run 'Premier' store on the Gunton...That have a 'special offer/near sale by date' section and do superb deals...

and so on..

And..I dunno...what comment should i keep to another thread...  Huh

Sorry again...

I have used Northbridge for many years, and Mark is always very helpful and honest. I have never had any reason to go anywhere else.

He is the sort of person who tells it as it is...and over the years I have appreciated his honesty. If he thinks you can buy a printer cheaper from Currys he will tell you so, but he has got his business of building custom PCs from word of mouth and personal recommendations...and deservedly so.

I have to disagree with a few points here.  Northbridge Computers are good, but also quite pricey for their accessories.  For example, a few years ago I bought a gadget to access hard drives without needing to plug into pc itself.  I was sold this for £49, but can be bought elsewhere for £29 (I found out later).

Also, he has 'not' been there for 10 years.  There was another computer shop in the same location, which had to shut down unexpectedly when the owner was arrested and went to prison.  Northbridge came in and took over the business, but that wasnt until 2003.

Having said that, I know that they have been in the business for many years, having previously having been a partner in Oulton-Broad based CDS.  After a falling out between other partners, the guy left and set up Northbridge.

I have always been treated fairly at Northbridge and would recommend them to anyone. They advise when there is a price difference on an article and will really put themselves out to help.

I have used them twice before and they have always been very helpful; especially explaining technical things in a language I could understand as I am not the most computer literate person in the world.

Searching through my pictures for another topic on lowestoftonline I came across this picture taken in 2006 which shows Northbridge Computers. Taken in Compass Street, the street where one of our Australian members was born and do you know I can't remember her name, it has gone completely from my head...another senior moment  Smiley
