I assume you are using a router and not just a simple broadband modem linking the computer to the phone line by cable (ethernet).   You view the stats by logging into the router with a user name and password which would have been used when setting it up in the first place.  Without that info I'm afraid there is not much more I can do to offer any further assistance.

What is the make of router as the login can vary?   For mine which is a D-Link you type in "http://192.168.1.1"  in the address bar.   Other makes might vary from this.

Just reading thought this subject - I have got the Router details required (see below) - but, this means very little to me!  Basically, is this “good”, “poor” - or “indifferent”?

Digressing slightly - my Wirelesss Router is a Netgear DG834G v4 which I’ve had for around four years.  Would upgrading the router to a new one be beneficial?

I would guess from your downstream connection that you are fairly close to the exchange.   However I am surprised that your upstream isn't higher - it's actually lower than mine and I am in Carlton Colville - a fair distance from the exchange.   JJ mentioned that his downstream was about 11MB (11,000Kbps) and his upstream about 1.5MB (1500Kbps) so I would have thought your upstream should be better than 444Kbps.  These are my current stats following a router re-boot.  I wouldn't have thought a router upgrade would benefit you at all.  I use the D-Link router that my ISP supplied and am happy with that.  I also have a Netgear DG834GT which I keep 'just in case'!

Trigger...

Your downstream Noise Margin is far too low for that connection speed...

It should be, at the very least, 6db (if not slightly higher) due to your connection rate figures...

The exchange/ISP normally sets everyone at 6db.

Does your connection drop a lot..?

You're connecting to the exchange at over 20meg and have a good Line Attenuation, so i assume you must be close to it...but your downstream Noise Margin definitely needs sorting out..You need to call your ISP and tell them how low it is.

Here's mine...as you can see from BoatBuilders router figures..He's also at 6db..Im just over..

Re- noise margin.   As you see from my figures I was at 6 when that was taken for both up and down.  Several months ago I had my ISP remove the restriction on my Noise margin which gives me better download speeds and my Noise Margin drops quite considerably in the evenings and has been as low as 0.1 without dropping connection.

Boatbuilder ...

As soon as mine drops below about 5.5 everything slows down..Up and downstream..I just wait a minute, turn the modem on and off, and that normally comes back to normal..

But..everytime you switch a modem off the exchange thinks you've dropped connection and could reset your sync speed to something lower..

My connection speed is the highest around my way..Everyone else around me is on about 2meg..I had to fight BT for months to get it that high....I know most of the engineers by name and they used my house/line for training purposes and so, sometimes, had 4 or 5 of them at once standing around looking at my wallplate..But i complained that much over the course of a year..that someone just pulled their finger out and replaced a lot of my wires...

If you have a telephone pole outside, you're lucky...All the rest were wired underground to the cabinets with aluminium wire, which they knew was rubbish even then and they knew it would degrade in 20 or 30yrs..But it wouldn't be their problem...Where as telephone poles have copper and are a lot easier to maintain.

Dont forget...the Lowestoft exchange is going FTTC in June this year..Well should be, according to BT. (They've already started installing some of the equipment down at the exchange)
