New disability swimming sessions starting in Lowestoft this month
« Posted: 06 January 2012 at 11:23 AM »
Hi everyone - just posting this on behalf of Optua. We're a local charity and we're launching new ‘Big Splash’ sessions for people with disabilities at the refurbished Lowestoft Leisure Centre from the end of January 2012.
The sessions will run every Friday from 1pm to 2pm. The sessions will be launching on Friday 20th January – a week before the leisure centre’s open weekend from the 27th to 29th to officially open the new facilities.
Big Splash sessions give people with disabilities the chance to swim or learn to swim at an accessible swimming pool, supported by staff and volunteers. The aim is to make it easier for disabled people to learn to swim or do it more regularly. Big Splash sessions are open to anyone with a disability of any age and are also open to anyone recovering from an accident or with a long term health condition.
Optua will also be running a Disability Sport Showcase Day at the Leisure Centre on Saturday 24th March which will give people with disabilities a chance to have a go at a wide range of Paralympic and disability sports so if you are disabled or know someone of any age who is - then please put this date in your diary or please call Graeme Anderson on 01473 836770 for more details about the event or the swimming sessions. Thanks!

Yes of course! I'll try and post again when we have more details. You can also download a copy of our latest events guide with more details of the Lowestoft event and other lowestoft activities here -

or call us on 01473 836770 for info.
Thanks
edit by Boatbuilder: It would seem that the link above is currently not working nor is the Optua site in general. It was OK the other day so it is probably a temporary thing. BB 12:22 pm 9th Jan.

It seems OK now. It definitely wasn't working when I said and when I just used the address without the additional bits after .org.uk it still didn't work. I even put a Google search in and none of the links that came up there would work either. There must have been a temporary server glitch.

Sorry about that! You're right it must have been a glitch or something. Perhaps the people who host our website were dusting their servers or something! Thanks for letting us know anyway. (PS I didn't mean to add the smiley face before!)

Hi Gawden - that would be great! Yes the event is open to anyone with a disability and many people with learning disabilities come along to these events and enjoy them. You can download a form via this link -

Or if you need more details please call us on 01473 836770. We can send you more forms in the post if that helps.
Thanks, James
