Interesting photos Kerch, the trees going by the bark pattern, look like London Plane, there are a few of those in Lowestoft, mainly along Katwijk Way. Much smaller though!

Yarmouth's Unloved Landmarks. This one looks pretty derelict but it likely to be renovated at huge expense (Lottery money involved). Built about 1852. Only remaining box girder bridge of its kind in UK.

Who can tell me what was the name of the company operating this place at Yarmouth? It's obviously grain silos. I am sure it was a flour millers. I can remember small coasters delivering grain there many years ago. It's at the confluence of the river Bure and the Yare. (near Asda). Rear of Kiki's fish restaurant, South Quay.

Aside from losing the historical connection what was actually gained from demolishing it to justify spending ninety thousand pounds?

Just to add to Kerch's photos...there are some 250000 trees along the canal between Bordeau and Sete. The Midi canal area is an Unesco World Heritage site and sadly this disease spreads through the root system and is very contagious. It requires eradication on site and all equipment being carefully disinfected before moving to the next tree. Any other plane tree , even if apparently healthy, within a radius of 50 meters have to be destroyed. It is estimated some 2000 are targeted for destruction in a bid to stop the fungus. Apparently the disease arrived with the US troops in Marseilles in 1944. They brought amunition boxes made from infected sycamore wood.
Back in May Kerch posted a photo in the darkroom #87 Ships and Boats when she saw us on our little cruiser with Lowestoft on the stern. We have spent the past 4 years chugging about on the canals including the 2010 on the Midi canal.
Kerch's other photo in ships and boats, ~177 was originally fitted out on Oulton Broad and I went alongas a crew member to take her to France and that's how we ended us getting a small boat and doing the canals. Back in Lowestoft now!

Kerch - it isn’t difficult to post a link to a “YouTube” page - it must be easy ‘cos I can do it!
Go to the relevant page on Youtube - click on the “address” and copy it, then go to the page on here where you want to post it. After you’ve written your comments, go to the next line and “paste” your link. When you post your comment the “address” will become a “live link” - e.g. www.lowestoftonline.com
I look forward to viewing the video!

Thanks for your reply, George. Yes, it was a satisfactory centre double-page spread. I am still in touch with Ken, the previous owner (Builder of the vessel, in fact, starting with a bare hull from Russia).

Can remember you posting the pictures of the buffaloes Meg, think it was the first time I had ever come across the idea of situating animals around a town/city. I remember the elephants in Norwich and Beccles on a smaller scale used ducks.

I have always liked that house and have sadly watched its decline over the years and when Badger started to build new houses at the back of it I thought its days were numbered; but it looks like it may be being restored...although I think a couple of hours DIY maybe wishful thinking Freelance

I don't think that house in Cotmer Road is/was as bad as a house near to The Old Feathers on the A146 near Norwich, which was revealed for all to see when the trees were cut down around it some six months or so ago. They completely gutted that house and it now looks like it will be a beautiful house when they finish renovating it.

Was it you that used to go to the Lido at Grange BB? I should look back and check but I think it was you - just heard on the news that a bid to rebuild the lido has fallen by the wayside and there are now plans to turn it into a medical centre.
