Christmas Lunch « Posted: 09 December 2011 at 12:35 PM »

I heard on Heart local radio ( I alternate between both that and Beach) that one of the presenters Rob Chandler had been invited to and attended a Christmas Lunch with WDC and the Chamber of Commerce yesterday.I don't know where my invite was,but I'm pleased to see cost cutting only effects some people. Anyone else on here get an invite?

My invite must have gone astray too Jane. I will drop them a line to let them know.

When I saw the topic name, I thought it was you sending out invites to all members to have Christmas Lunch with you, NJ.   Grin   I'm disappointed, now.  crybaby2

I'm glad my invite went missing, sitting with a bunch of stuffed shirts would be bad enough, but having to listen to Rob Chandler as well!

NJ, are you a member of either WDC or the Chamber of Commerce?

I think NJ's original post was just a tongue-in-cheek comment aimed at 'Cost Cutting'  Smiley  If not, I'm sure she will confirm it.

Surely if businesses want to pay for dinners then it's up to them, and not for "ordinary" people to question it.  icon_scratch

I somehow think we are talking about the council who spend yours and my money paid by way of Council Tax, etc.

Yes it was tongue in cheek. In these times of cuts I think it should start at the top. When services are being cut, far to many to mention,I think the last thing the authorities should be doing is having free lunches and paying for guests who can well afford a lunch. There are many suffering and struggling to keep warm and eatCutting staff on the front line.It seems its always the powers that be who say, no pain no gain but it always excludes them. They really should publish the guest list and the costings of this swaree after all we are paying.

NJ, maybe that information you say they should publish can be obtained under the 'Freedom of Information Act'

This is an extract taken from Direct.gov:

"The Freedom of Information Act gives you the right to ask any public body for all the information they have on any subject you choose. Unless there’s a good reason, the organisation must provide the information within 20 working days. You can also ask for all the personal information they hold on you.
Everyone can make a request for information – there are no restrictions on your age, nationality, or where you live.
You can ask for any information at all - but some information might be withheld to protect various interests which are allowed for by the Act. If this is case, the public authority must tell you why they have withheld information.
If you ask for information about yourself, then your request will be handled under the Data Protection Act."
