Not sure if we have a special thread for Christmas photos, but memory seems to think we normally do.
I'll start it off with a photo of my newly-constructed Christmas tree. Stage 1 complete. Stage 2 is tonight, putting up indoor decorations, and stage 3 is tomorrow, putting up outdoor lights. Love Christmas!!

Your memory serves you well Jolly Japes we do usually have a Christmas themed topic.
No decorations in my house but I am not completely unfestive; I am quite happy to partake in a few Christmas traditions...

Christmas decorating is now done. Inside looks good, but looks 'naff' on camera so no photos of that! Have today completed the outdoor light setup, and a little disappointed. Half the lights dont look as good I would have hoped, and the other half need throwing away and replacing! Still, decided it'll do.

There's only 8 sets of lights, 5 outdoors and 3 inside. Running off 3 different sockets, should be fine.

Not strictly true.
Santa Claus is based on Saint Nikolous, who I believe came from the Germany area and was I believe a carpenter who had no children of his own, and decided to treat the children of his village with wooden toys one year.
And the other? Well, there has been enough proof to show conclusively that Jesus as a man did indeed exist around 2000 years ago. Most religions accept that, where they differ is the degree of 'holyness' that Jesus had. The fact that he existed is just that, fact.

Yesterday I watched a programme about houses in Europe with thousands of lights that get bigger each year. Two were in England, one in Germany and two in Holland. There is one house in Arkansas that has many, many thousands of lights and people drive from miles around to see it.Even in our neighborhood their are several houses with thousands of lights.

Meg, I saw a show on HGTV at the weekend that was probably the same one. They had a couple of people in England, others were in Germany and Italy that I remember.
I love to ride around certain neighborhoods to look at the decorations. I have lights outside too. Mine are multicolored and some red ones. I like to see the colored ones, as so many people nowadays seem to use clear. House after house of clear lights is boring to me lol! I wanted to get some green lights, but couldn't find any. Went in several shops and they were all sold out. Next year I shall get them as soon as I see them.

That is the same one I saw Karen-I forgot about the one in Italy.Years ago we hunted for green glass balls for the tree but could not find any-I think green must be a hard color to find , you'd think red/green are Christmas colors so they would be easy to find!!!!

Thnx that you like my livingroom
That's right, on December 5th, the Dutch still celebrate St Nicholas , The children believe that this old man from Spain, gives gifts , as they have been kind over the past year , Many older people still celebrate Saint Nicholas Day every year, just for fun, I celebrate it not anymore , now my son is a bit older, we give each other gifts with Christmas, I like that more than on December 5th,

I like the snow effect in your tree, I also see that you placed an Angel at the top of the tree, I always have a "piek" at the top of my Christmas tree, how does that called in English and is it also common in England?

|

Would that translate as point? Similar to Pique in French

Google translates Piek in Dutch to Peak in English. I actually have something similar on top of one of my Christmas trees in the lounge and an angel on the other one in my dining area. I will take a picture and post it later. A peak is the pointed top of a mountain according to the Oxford dictionary so I think the term is being used 'loosely' in Holland as it amounts to a 'pointed top'
