Your problem certainly sounds like a setup issue to me too. If you're 100% sure the password is correct, then I'd guess the username is wrong, or the server name.

Paul - Thanks for your comments.  I’m sure that the problem I encountered was not down to Thunderbird - though it may have come across that way in my ramblings!  I did double-check my input of the details needed to for the program to contact my ISP - I even wrote it down when I made the last attempt - to make sure I got it right.
It's just one of those mysteries that happen sometimes!
