hygiene « Posted: 26 November 2011 at 11:14 AM »

I have lived both in inner london outside all over country where one expects to find dog filth on the streets but surprise i was able to walk down the streets and see little of the stuff.HERE in lowestoft we swimining in it.
i dont understand the mindset of such filthy people, but all is not lost,i have discoved a spray which other towns use,it fluresent orange and it sprayed on the cr8p,children then can see it not walk on it...i understand in other areas they only need about 100 cans a week of course lowestoft will need considerably more.
i have been unfortunate to see the results of eyes after dog mess, and what you see is little worms swimming around in the eyes,i dread to think what the children have of these dog owners without a doubt worms.
hygine cost nothing but saves lives

Its something that's everywhere sadly, being a birder i dont see dog walkers as a natural allie (always get where you don't want to flushing and disturbing things... but that's another debate). Make no mistake always remember sensible dog owners certainly exist if it wasn't for them there would be far more faecal matter lying around.

A friend said the other day if you own 1 dog you have a dog, if you own 2 dogs you have half a dog and more than 2, you have a pack, or in other words they wont listen to you.

I see people down the beach sometimes walking 5-6 even more dogs, in these times of austerity I cant see how people can afford so many, and they all haven't a hope in hell of cleaning up after them or keeping them under control to an extent not to annoy other people, i know as i seen this all with my own eyes many times. Maybe there should be some sort of dog licence or law passed on maximum dog ownership but make laws you also got to enforce them.

Re: hygine « Reply #3 Posted: 26 November 2011 at 12:45 PM »

The flourescent spray would perhaps best be used to mark out the owners.  It is them that let all of society down.

well as it happen i agree with you andre, but as other areas pay then not unreasonable to be on a wage, but i for one would do it.i have placed 6 notes on 6 dollops outside my house this morning i ask cops if that was ok apart from them asking me to remove dog sh1t name replace with poo then it ok.the laugh is they ask me get council to remove it, they were staggered about the fly tipping o.s mentioned said was criminal offence and if evidence of address of fly tipper they would gladly arrest them but unless council report then nothing can be done.some filthy locals and people who do nothing just accept it must have questionable hygine habbits

I clean up after my own dog, and I certainly don.t expect others to do it for me. If owners aren,t responsible enough to  clean up up after their dogs then they shouldn't have them. I am retired and am not spending my twilight years cleaning up dog poo so that the culprits don't have to do it. Get real.

I know how to do it but I have no intention of doing it. Hit them in the pocket , there are enough notices up about being fined but nobody ever is.

You 're not the only one's with problems dog****.I went out thursday evening and when I came home planted my heel in a fresh pile just outside my house .I knew one pile was nearby and avoided that and walked  straight into the new one . There's bags and bins provided and have yet to see anyone using them . An English friend always cleans up after her dog but she's always done that even before the bag and bins were installed .

In Yarmouth, the fine for a dog-fouling offence is usually about £80, and on one occasion several months ago there was a £120 fine. As with all fouling and littering offences - it is not the job of anyone else to clear it up. Only the perpetrators.
A couple of you are having a laugh (no doubt intentionally) by saying that innocent people should clear it up.
It won't be me!

Dog crap is one thing that has always been a nasty issue in Lowestoft since I lived there as a kid.   It's not the dog's fault, it's the nasty, lazy owners!  I just don't understand why they can't pick up after their pets.  I know there are many responsible pet owners that properly take care of their animals, and it's a shame that others don't.  How difficult is it to take some little plastic bags with you while out walking the dog?  I can tell you that if someone did that outside my house, I'd find out where they live and their "property" would be returned to them.

..... and the cat poo IN my garden gets me down but theres doodle pip I can do about it. Pets should not be allowed to foul anyones property but their own and the owners should be fined  but never are there is absolutely no point in having a fne unless it is going to be carried through

it was the worms last straw.. little boy next door saw it and ran up to look,we caught him in time.
london has other problems there is a cultural thing of some(many) people chewing some form of tobaco it bright orange, then spitting it in street,Newham has this problem and newham has the highest tb rate outside pakistan this stuff stains. The uk got a big problem apathyitis,no one seems to care, and it reflect in all aspects of our country.
what saddens me,people feel they have to write to papers thanking hospital staff for care and cleaness of wards they stay on.these things should be automatic

That word is a lovely invention SD.  ....  Apathyitis.
I suppose that's what people suffer from when then can't even be bothered to be apathetic.

I believe cats should be kept indoors anyway!  It takes care of that problem and other issues for the cats.

No I do know what you mean SD and agree with you

Dont believe in cats being kept indoors its not a natural place for them to be, they need to be able to run around, socialise, climb trees etc  but as SD said in her post its very easy to train cats to use a litter tray outside their own back door likewise its very easy to pick up after dogs in both cases its lazy owners.

We have Bert living here and allowing us to stay with him (yes he is a cat) he will venture far and wide but comes home for his meals and to do his bit in the bush by the fence. he can be left in for a day and night and he has a tray but as the boss says "bless him" he will wait until the door is opened and it's a bee line for the bush (even I have tried to kill that bush but it thrives) so cats are trainable and as FC says it is down to the owners who are at fault regarding Dogs and the Poo they drop.

a cat will do what it has to do as will a fox somethings one has to accept but do what you can to minimise it.my cat as every other cat in my area have full freedom i also suffer cats droppings but not a great deal i can do but he is trained best i can do. he not intentionaly taken out to defecate.
i have seen little old ladies take dettol out clean up area then clean dogs bot.if little old lady who could just about walk do that then others can.i watched families with children pretend not to see their dog doing it, to me that seems worse than the careless young men with pit bulls who walk late at night

subject is hygine so it applied to macdonalds kfc people leaving black bin bags of clothes outside charity shops all weekend,The recycle bins that overflow..wonderful things for some unemployed by choise, people on probation etc.
i was in russia some years ago and they had people responsible for about 400yards each, they spent all day cleaning that area and they had pride in what they did...i dropped something bit of litter and member of public was horrifed tapped me on shoulder made me pick it up,and rightly so.we need to have that menality to do that, but we scared of saying something and with justification as so many people carry knives.

I also saw those people in Russia SD using brooms ( like the witches ones) sweeping everywhere when I was growing up the council used to have people out sweeping up the leaves, shovelling up snow and generally sweeping the paths doesnt happen now, leave it all down there for people to slip and slide on

Maybe there should be some sort program for those receiving benefits to include a job of poop cleaner.  Win/Win.  They do something for the pay (and their community) and the streets get cleaned.

When I was a youngster, that is what happened. Those who were unemployed were called upon to clear snow or other hazards. Now they would refuse to do it as it is against their human rights.

Human rights, my a$$ lol!  Where does doing an honest day's work go against someone's human rights?  Seems to be that's a big social problem.  There's too much of an entitlement attitude.  It's a job.  Refuse a job, benefits end.  Whether it be pooper scooper, snow shoveler or whatever or where ever there's a need

I have stuck a little notice on my garden fence asking people to refrain from leaving either their or there dogs mess outside my house i also drawn little match stick men for those that can't read and it seems to be paying off.
so ok one dog was unlucky yesterday running free on beach he swollowed fishing hook and line so between fishermen and dog walkers i would be inclined to say the majority in lowestoft got some iffy hygine and maybe cruel ways of respecting others and the area they live in plus wildlife

I remember when each householder and shopkeeper would keep the area of pavement outside their property clean and tidy. Everywhere was clean and nobody had too much to do. Pride is what is missing nowadays.

i was listening to the world service radio 4,apparently in paris dog mess is about 20tons i not sure if it a week or a day, which ever its rather alot.they get average weight of a  dollop times it...now the french are getting as p'd off as me,so they turned it into art...by which they spray each dollop with bright paint and stick something on top usually pic of person and dog who did it or mountain range etc...if whole nation are ashamed of their towns then lowestofians should be...they also made dog dooing a criminal offence.
i see no reason why we can't do the same.
