Bats in the belfrey?
« Posted: 22 November 2011 at 04:54 PM »
I took at walk round the old camp site at dusk and saw some bats that seem to be coming out of the old ruin of a toilet block on what was the touring site.
I can't recollect seeing them before and wonder if anyone else has.I suppose they were able to move in because the wood shutters were vandalsied some time ago.

Sorry not really up on bats SD.They are very small and come out of the building that used to be the site loo.If you walk down swimming pool road, past the new site on your right and the entrance to the cricket ground on your left, after about one hundred yards the old ruined building is on your left. The seem to come out where the wooden shutters have been pulled down.

I know the building concerned, im surprised as in the spring it got arsoned so this couldn't have pit them off. I'll mention this to a friend who knows a bit more about them im sure he'll go along and see what's about. Thanks for mentioning this in the first place OS.
I'll report any findings hopefully soon, i guess they'll be hibernating soon anyway.

I went again tonight and spoke to a lady I've seen there a few times before, she said she thought they came out of the roof of the old cricket pavilion and not the old loo block.
She said they've been there for years.

With so much water apparently leaking through the roof into Tuttles maybe a vast colony Great Crested Newts are now living between the there floorboards too.

Bats roost in all sorts of unlikely places ,several took up residence behind the name board on the workshop at the boatyard where I worked .
One baby fell down and was very lucky not to have a size 10 workboot land on it .

I doubt the bats would want to move in there the place is too full of rats.My dog killed another one round the back of the place the other night. You're right about the water getting though it was wearing a little souwester hat and wellies.
