The thoughts of Edwina Currie
« Posted: 15 November 2011 at 07:15 PM »
I normally dont have a lot of time for Edwina Currie but having heard her saying there are no people actually starving in this country I have to say I totally agree with her. She went along to the house of one woman, mother of three who is 'so poor' she is having to accept food parcels (worth £35) from a local charity but in the house was a very large well groom boxer dog, two or three budgies, a large TV, and mobile phones this is a 'starving' family. In an interview today the woman in question said she was so angry at Edwina for doubting her, when questioned further she said if she didnt have the handouts she d have to get a job that she didnt like, and she didnt see why she should be unhappy. By the end of that interview she wasnt the only one feeling angry

Listening to another interview this morning with a 'poor person' she was bemoaning the fact that she was now so poor she would have use hand me downs for her new babies and as she was pregnant she had a yearning for an Indian takeaway which she now couldnt afford, she was then getting ready for taking the car out for the school run.

How sad, seems they were let down by Social Services...but I don't suppose anyone will take responsibility, pass the buck, blame the government, throw a sickie (poor stressed out social workers) and have a strike so some more 'ordinary' people can slip through the net.
I watched Edwina Currie the other night and like Funkychick I thought she talked a lot of sense.

There's a big difference between the really needy and some of the people who live off benefit....I noticed the young woman who was mentioned at the start of this thread had managed to find money to have her hair styled and coloured and her nails were sporting coloured nail varnish...!
