This illustrates how some people have no idea about their own and other people's safety!!!
On the industrial estate where I work I do a fair amount of electronics repairs for a business primarily involved with computers. They will also take in a few flat screen TV sets - which are then passed on to me for repair. I was appalled last Friday when a 32" set ( which I later diagnosed as having a faulty internal power supply - (a few faulty electrolytic capacitors) - and a corrupt Eeprom) was brought into my workshop and I observed this potentially dangerous condition. See attached photo!!!!   I am trying to find out if the person who owned it actually ran the set in this condition in his home!
Apparently when the set was brought into the computer workshop the owner's wife was most anxious to have it done quickly so that she wouldn't miss X-Factor on Saturday evening!!!!!!!!
The set was repaired today and a NEW mains lead fitted.

Not unless she managed to get another 'telly' from somewhere Frankie.

Whilst I'm on here I can also add that apart from the unsafe state of the TV - it was also filthy and had to have a good clean up before I took the back off.  I can always guess the state of the interior of people's houses from the stuff they bring in for repair. I 'd further guess that there are homes that do not possess vacuum cleaners and some people must never dust their fitments/furniture etc., Every little ledge and grill on the back of this TV was thick with dust. It seems some people have no pride in their homes.

do you have to be a qualified electrician to work on electrical items?
If not I assume you have some very big insurance policy to cover the repairs you do?

Just Stu: I am a fully qualified electronics engineer, run a business (established 30 years ago) and yes - I have very comprehensive public liability insurance cover.

I had a friend who worked for a TV company and he frequently told the customer that he would have to take their set away for repair as he couldn't repair it on their premises as the fault was so bad. in reality their houses were so disgusting he couldn't face fixing it on site. Some even had old dried up dog poo on the carpets. I don't know how people can live like it.

respect robbie i would't know me faulty capasitor if it hit me with a kipper i pay someöne like you.me dust and capasitors live in symbosis together and to add strickly c6me dancing is better i would want mine back for that.your pic looks like wall paper so no wiser.

who he.i take it you know your faulty capasiter do tell and in detail..this so good whole train stopped and in my carrage some stood up.good to know people still care.sorry had put that here me reception going on and off
