"Error Screen" message!
« Posted: 02 November 2011 at 07:21 PM »
Some advice please, before I go and throw my PC over the side of the bridge . . . was online today (on this site) - so that was open. I also had Word open as I was writing a piece for posting. Then suddenly the screen went black for a few seconds - then a blue screen (reminiscent of the “Blue screen of death”!) appeared. I jotted down some of the info on screen:
It was headed “Error Screen” - with advice: If this is the first time this has happened - reboot.
It went on to say: Check for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing
The last line was: Tech Info STOP: 0x0000007E
Seriously beginning to think it’s time to treat myself to an Apple

I typed your error code into Google and there was quite a lot of info [most of it above my head]

Thanks Meryl - had tried that also - and ended up none the wiser! Perahps it's time for a PC MOT!!
I'll keep a diary of any little quirks of whatever they're called . . . and see how it goes.

Found a bit more info on this “message” from Wikipedia
Link
- “
Stop errors are hardware or driver related, causing the computer to stop responding in order to prevent damage to the hardware or data.”
So, from what I’ve read in that article - it
could
be that this “message” helped prevent the computer from “crashing”. Methinks steps need to be taken!

Last service pack (W7) received 23 February - and there aren't any other updates to that.
My PC seems to have occasional "problems"! Soon after installing W7 kept getting a message that it was an illegal copy. Phoned MS (call cost £3!) to eventually be told it was a legal copy - and they didn't know why it happened. Recently been getting a "Close everything - low on memory" messages - but that's now stopped! I wait with bated breath for the next "problem" to pop up!
