I'm sure that culls are only carried where absolutely necessary - and by experts.

A sparrow and a swan; the swan had seven large cygnets in tow, the biggest swan family I have ever seen.

They are all good Mel, but I love the first tree picture and the sparrow. Excellent.

It looks like swans may soon be more plentiful that sparrows. I was thinking of putting a couple of nest boxes up for them in the spring, in previous years I had to make the holes in the tit boxes smaller because the sparrows were always using them against my will.

Mel: Excellent picture of the Sparrow - I must try and get some pictures of smaller birds as the larger ones are just too easy! At least I managed to get a pic of a squirrel recently!

I was thinking of putting a couple of nest boxes up for them in the spring... ...and talking of nest boxes I came across this 'one' in Norwich yesterday...are they expecting a large influx of migrant birds Some of the holes look quite small so could these boxes be for some sort of insect or bat?

Mel: Language, please!
I think they're what you said or, being more refained, "modern art" - whatever that is! Nesting boxes are never that close - even for bats.

Like the blooming Christmas Cactus Kerch, my Mother has one on her kitchen window sill and that is full of blooms too.
'Bookends', good title for the picture of the swans Trigger, one of the books between them ends could be 'Swallows and Amaswans'
With the buds coming out on this tree it could be Spring instead of Winter...

I shall ignore the 'Swallows and Amaswans' comment as I don't want to encourage you!
Super picture of the Sparrow - beautifully "caught" - great composition.

The berries and blue sky picture Kerch looks like a magnified picture of an atom or some other minuscule object a scientist would look at through his microscope
