Good to see not everyone is rolling over « Posted: 26 October 2011 at 08:12 AM »

Public sector unions will this week ask the courts to strike out one of the government's key austerity measures, in a move that could benefit millions of workers who face losing inflation-related rises on their pensions.

Judges will be asked in two separate legal actions to rule that ministers broke the law when they decided to uprate pensions and benefits according to the consumer prices index (CPI), which historically has risen by a smaller amount each year than the retail prices index (RPI).

There will have to be many many more cuts in the next 2.5 years if the government are to reach there target. What might help them more exports , but evon better than that manufacture more of the goods that we consume at home.

@ Aussie K..............where do you suggest that we actually manufacture more of the goods which we consume at home ?..........the manufacturing base of this country has been flattened, the transport infrastructure depleted beyond belief and all of our future captains of industry are moving abroad for their free education (and trust me they wont be coming back once they have experienced the oportunities they will face in the forward thinking nations).............

@ Andre M................love the rancour in your "expecting pensioners to manufacture" comment...........perhaps they can do it in their care homes........oh no sorry..............there all closing too..........

Can we have less of the sarcasm in these posts please.  It is not really necessary.  I think that comment has been used at least twice in these forums already.

Mikrog, that of coarse is a problem but great trees start from acorns.
There is a great railway works in Derbyshire that is crying out for work perhaps instead of of giving the next rail carriage oder to France just maybe it could be placed there. I have said before on a number of occasions that purchasing from abroad may seem cheaper but the opposite is more true, for inst. if we purchased a carriage from France we have to purchase the cost of there labour the cost of the materials  in it's manufacture there overheads & mark ups and in addition pay unemployment pay to the people langwishing on the dole.
We must as a nation think positively & have the courage to move foreword,

Why does everything with you  have to evolve round the 'Public Sector' Andre?   Aussie's post was referring to the Railway works in Derbyshire so I would read that as those 'langwishing on the dole' are the ones losing their jobs from that sector.   There are other areas of hardship outside the Public Sector.

I have worked in the private sector for 48 years and I have seen substantial job losses (including my own job twice in that time) within the private sector.   What about the thousands of jobs that have been lost in the Steel and Motor industries over the years to name just two sectors?    I think that to keep forcing the hardships of the Public Sector at people on here that do not work in it, when they are referring to the private sector (Aussie's post) , will not get your cause any sympathy votes.
