You are right a sou wester is a hat and the lady was Maudie, I must have had a rather larger blonde moment! Good sorts, great to have had some characters about town. I was too young to know about Romaine but I have heard about her, poor lady.

Who was the old boy who used to push a big pram round? Never heard of Kron and I m intrigued to know what Romaine bought off you Aussie?
There was an old man who lived in a tin shack in Blackheath Road who used to push a pram around collecting bits of wood, etc for his fire. My OH used to give him wood when he had any left over. The old man has since died and his tin shack has gone and a bungalow built on the land. Don't know what his name was.

Have just visited the Library and there's a display stand of photos “Gone but not forgotten” (to the right of the main desk, ground floor). Amongst them are pictures of: The Electric Boats at Kensington Gardens (1958), the Baptist Church, South Pier Pavilion, The Odeon, St John’s Church, etc. There also photos of Tommy - on Carnival Day with his collecting bucket, and Ada Roe - Lowestoft’s “
super-centenarian
” - who died in 1968 aged 111 years and 339 days.

Who was the old lady who had a dairy off Denmark Road and sold or delivered milk until she was in her 80s?

I remember going to Ada Roes' dairy with my mother. She was really old but she sat in the shop and gave orders to her daughters who were old too. When my mum was little, Ada delivered milk in a barrow. She'd go down the road and people would bring out their jugs and buy the milk straight from the churn. Didn't Tommy have a friend called Arthur? They used to like to hang around with the teenagers at Curtis' coffee shop and also at the dances on the south pier every Thursday night. I think at one time Arthur had worked at Jewsons. I know my dad knew him and would slip him a few bob when he saw him.
