Windows Live Mail problem « Posted: 20 October 2011 at 01:34 PM »

For some reason, my “Mail” account has suddenly decided to be uncooperative!  I open the program; click on “Email message” (to write/send) and up pops a box: “Windows Live Mail. A problem occurred while trying to open this message. A problem has occurred. Please try again.”
Unfortunately, trying again doesn’t help.

I am seriously considering changing to a different email program! crybaby2

I know this may sound a little daft but delete the last message and then close down the mail reader then open it to see if you have cured the error.
If you have "auto open" set to open the new mail it may be that the mail itself has the problem and is causing the error message to be displayed

Well it worked for me on more than one occasion

Thanks nikkai - all thoughts/ideas gratefully received!  Unfortunately - that didn’t work  crybaby2 - and I don’t use Auto Open.

Googled around a bit and came across “MS Fix it” which states: In the File Download dialog box, click Run, and then follow the steps in the wizard”.  Did this - and a message appeared and then disappeared almost as quickly - fortunately, managed to read what it said: “Bootstrap has stopped working” - but no wizard appeared!

I’m totally confused.com now! Will leave it until the morrow and, if it’s just the same, I’ll have to resort to finding a different email program.

Got necessary instructions from MS and deleted Windows Live Mail - rebooted - and reinstalled it.  Opened it, clicked to open/write an email - same problem! So, I made an Executive Decision - all by myself!   Grin

Suddenly the Old Grey Cells sprang into action - and I remembered that I have MS Office which includes "Outlook" - opened that up and - it used my exisitng settings for email.  Some of the address book/received messages transferred over - but not all - but can easily deal with that.  Sent an email to my Yahoo address - and recieved in Yahoo Mail. Phew!  So, would seem that we're all up and running (I'm keeping everything crossed!)

Thanks for all comments/suggestions.

Hi Trigger,
Have you just swapped your anti-virus system?
If so make sure that you 'allow' the use of the windows live mail reader in the system it could be blocking the program and so you get the bootstrapper error

Thnaks nikkai - haven't changed AV System.  But will have a rummage around (carefully of course!) and see if I can find anything.
