My recollection of a record player was a nice quality piece of furniture housing this wind up player, the type that had a horn on top & this would be in 1938/39

Who then can remember all the sailers in town, during the last war all the MTB's ML's & MGB's and the noise they created almost every night on leaving port & coming back early mornings. Huge numbers of sailer were billeted out into local peoples homes, We had four sailers in our home & they all had to sleep in one room

Yes aussiek we had 2 sailors in our home in North Parade. Plenty of extra food for us as they always were able to supplement our rations.

When bonuses were first paid out for three months work (assuming that is you made some) I got a £5 pound Note & it was one of the huge white one's, approximately !948.

Aussie: our gramophone was housed in a cabinet - but the horn was inside the cabinet - a bit like the one below - only not as posh! I had two 78s - a Disney one: "Who's afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?" and Henry Hall's "Teddy Bears Picnic"/"Hush, hush, hush, here comes the Bogeyman"! I also learned an important lesson about 78s - they break if you sit on them!
