Dont worry SD I never thought the Queen Mum was a dear little old lady if I remember rightly she was paramount to P
rincesss Margaret not marrying the loveo f her life Peter Townsend and I aways thought she must be a tough cookie to do that

Oh Snowdrop, that is disgusting.  What a hard-hearted person she must have been. I couldn't imagine Princess Diana requesting that.

....but we dont know she asked for that or if it was the organisation that felt that was the right thing to do. Like how they practically paint a whole building before the Queen visits anywhere, i m sure she doesnt ask for them to do that. I dont think we should judge PM on that

If you read the bio about Princess Margaret - it gives details of where her marrying Peter Townsend would be problematical (and remember that this was 1953) - he was divorced, The British Cabinet refused to approve the marriage. Parliament would not approve a marriage that would be unrecognised by the Church of England unless Margaret renounced her rights to the throne. Source: Wikipedia.

Oh I totally understand that Trigger remember I was around when it all took place  but it has always been known that the Queen M and Prince P were very forceful and i agree she should have renounced her right to the throne

I read a lovely novel written by Peter Townsnd years ago
