We have always said "rabbits rabbits rabbits" on the first of each month. For us it must be the first words you utter on that day.

Question though... is it said the first thing when you wake up (before speaking to anyone else), or can you say it at one minute past midnight?!

Surely it should be a 'pinch and a punch' for the first day of the month ;-)

"The exact origin of the superstition [Rabbits, Rabbits] is unknown, though it has appeared in print at least as early as 1922. However, some reports place its origins even earlier, into the 1800s."

Rabbit sounds like a 'foriegn' word turned into english, e.g. ra (sun/bright/happy) with bette bein (good) -ra-bette- may be olde for happy new good luck month... who knows? I guess it is not rabbit but some olde good luck wish for the month.. maybe?

So why did people used to wear a rabbits foot for luck (always seemed strange to me to have a bit of an animal made into a brooch ouch) and why the Easter bunny bringing presents why not a spring lamb knocking at your door
The rabbits rabbits rabbits thing seems to have started in England
