Hi guys dont know if you have seen on the news but the government have said they will spend 250 million pounds across england to bring back weekly collections where fortnightly collections are present. So any feelings about this i have my feelings but would like to hear yours first. Its due to happen across england from april next year but its only if the councils wants to do it. The government says people want to get more form their council tax and this will be a way of getting it and apparently picking up more votes.

I am perfectly happy with the alternate weeks collections - black bin one week and green and blue the other. I usually only put my black bin out once every four weeks, for the small amount of landfill waste we produce. Admittedly there are only two of us so others will obviously be different. I could probably get away with the blue bin on a similar basis, but I don't bother to compress most of the items as I have plenty of room in the bin not to have to do so.

I am also happy with the current arrangements. I do worry about the sanity of this government.

Its not aimed at streets with black sacks its aimed at all areas who have the different bins etc black/blue. I must admit they were saying on the news this would only encourage people to chuck everything into the black bin and not bother recycling anythng. I like it as it is and enjoy doing the recycling i think its a total waste of money and lets think how will the pavements would be with all 3 bins out on the street every morning it would be stupid.

I like it as it is i am very careful with waste and my black bin could easily go longer I usually only have one or at most two bags of unrecycled waste a fortnight.
Between the green, black, blue bin,s freangle and the charity shops I have nothing left tp throw away

I am quite happy with the way things are now. No need for weekly collection on my account.

Nor me! There being only me - there's very little in the black bin after 2 weeks - but in this weather it pongs a bit - so sprinkle it with Jeyes Fluid "Freshbin Powder"! The blue bin I put out every four weeks and it's always at least 3/4 full (don't know where it all comes from though!)

If anything we need a smaller black bin, we do not generate that much waste, blue bin gets full.

I am not at all unhappy with fortnightly collections If could choose I would prefer the green bin to be emptied every week& the black & blue bins alternative weeks. For most people a very small green bin would be all that was required And it is only the green one that gives off the smells. in my case not long ago I had herring heads & "guts" in my bib early & the bin-men failed to empty mine & my neighbours on the following collection day & what a hum after four weeks. javascript:void(0);

I often have my feet sticking our of the black or blue bins if I have lost something in the house. My wife misplaced a ring and some times she wrap the things up in a tissues , I took every scrap from booth bins all to no avail. It did eventually come to light when she cleaned under the fridge, but by that time my hair was grey.
As for the bins my black bin every fortnight in only about a third full, my blue often near the top & the green one half a dozen green bags (very small ones)half full, that is apart from occasionally this time of the year when heavy pruning take place. What on earth are the bin men going to empty, the government must be stark raving mad.

At the risk of being shouted down, I actually welcome the return of weekly collections. In my block of flats we have one blue and two black bins, and it took some persuasion on my part to get a 2nd black bin last year! The council tried to make me pay, despite my quoting the law at them about it being one black bin 'per dwelling' not per building. Even so, others down my road always have overflowing bins, and so I think weekly collections would help greatly. Much of the problem in my view stems from the fact that nowadays bin men are not allowed to lift or wheel away heavy bins, and so if the lid sticks open so much as a few milimeters then it is left behind with a big yellow warning sticker. Weekly collections would help sort this issue.

Yes its only us english though where my inlaws live in scotland they have fortnightly and if the black bin is full they put the sacks next to the bin on day of collection and the binmen take it all away its just the way we are down here very lazy. I guess for larger buildings and large families it will be welcome but i have a family and my black bin is never full we recycle most stuff and any food waste goes in the food waste bin and then into the green bin. Even when we had nappies etc i used to pay the extra few pence to get proper nappy bags and then it never stunk the bin out. Our problem is we are just too lazy to do anything well most of us anyway not all of us.

Why do you think you're at risk of being shouted down? Any of us can have different requirements to other people. So, one's comments are based on one's needs. I put my black bin out (once a month) - which is less than a quarter full - and other bins are full to overflowing! But ending on a general note - if bringing in weekly bin emptying also helps reduce the amount of fly tipping in the area - then I'm all for it.

Agree with that trigger if it does help stop fly tipping.

........but it wont because most of fly tipping is to do with larger items sofas, beds, tvs etc the things that you cant get put in a bin however many times its a week

I personally would love to see the glass recycling scheme extended in Lowestoft, and money used for that. Only North Lowestoft and Halesworth get it and it would be great to get rid of glass with the bin waste like other areas of Lowestoft, i think they only use bags for it??
