Should the Motorway Speed Limit be increased?

The Department of Transport is to launch a consultation on increasing the speed limit on England and Wales' motorways from 70mph to 80mph.
Do you think it should be increased?

Surely encouraging people to drive faster isn't going to help people fuels consumption, faster cars = more emmissions not good for the environment, or ones purse/wallet.
Obviously a lot of cars you see on motorways, in the faster lanes are already doing 80+ mph, Try drivng at 70mph yourself and do other cars still overtake?

I would be happy to see the limit raised to 80 but I would also like high penalties for 5% more than 80

Personally I cant see how you will get to your appointment quicker you d just get to the stuck point of the traffic jam quicker. Going faster wont get you to your destination any quicker

FC you are perfectly correct. I have mentioned on here before about my journey times and you gain very little, if anything, by speeding. When I travelled up north two months ago I kept within the speed limits and my journey time was no slower than it would have been had I exceeded it. I know because I have done the journey so many times in the past twenty-plus years.

You have all seen it, some Speedy Go Johnny fly's past you at 99 mph only to find him sat at the lights when you get there, what's the point.

Long time since I have seen a set of lights on the motorway.
