Sorry HC, I've been living up in the NW for the last 18 years so am out of touch. I remember having a mate who lived around there in anold house that had a huge garden, I think that may have formed part of it along with some agricultural land maybe? I'm sure somebody here will know better though.
Isn't that a small estate that was planned by Oldman & Routledge?

Happy Chick - the Dunston Estate was built on land that was once part of Ivy Farm. When Ivy Farm buildings went into ruin the land was then farmed by the adjoining Laurel Farm. At that time the farmer was a Mr Mobbs whose name lives on in Mobbs Way where the Cold Store and Oulton Industrial Estate is. Laurel Farm is still a working farm using what little land there is left to farm!. The present farmer combines this with his bed and breakfast business having converted some of the outbuildings into dwellings. Ivy Farm buildings stood on the sweeping bend in Hall Lane ( on the left hand side heading towards Somerleyton) between the rather expensive houses built there and two semi-detached houses (now knocked into one!). A little further on there's the sharp bend where Laurel Fam stands. Most, if not all, of the farmland around this area is owned by SCC and was farmed by tenant farmers. Laurel Farm house is now privately owned and the owner rents the farm land from SCC . I'll dig out a photo I have of the ruins of Ivy Farm that I took in the 1980s and post it later. My knowledge on the matter being gained from having been an Oulton Parish Councillor for well over 25 years!!!!

Happy Chick: Here's the photo of Ivy Farm buildings taken in 1987. It was quite a rat infested place at that time. I'm not sure when it was totally demolished but I'd guess it was in the 1990s.
