Are you related to J.K Rowling? « Posted: 07 August 2011 at 09:55 PM »

J.K Rowling takes part in the new series of Who do you think you are? She traces her roots back to Kessingland near Lowestoft, so someone could be a distant relative of J.K Rowling.  Shocked

I care.
And as a fellow member on here, I reserve the right to just as much forum space as anyone else.  If you dont care about any particular article, just ignore and move on.  To do otherwise signals an intolerant attitude towards others, and a selfish nature.

Sorry if my post caused offence but if i hold that sort of view on a particular subject then why shouldn't i say something?

Why should anyone care if they are distantly related to JK Rowling, would it make any difference to your life? Are we really obsessed that much with celebrity nowadays? The relations i have are my world and wouldn't swap any of them for having a celeb in my woodpile.

Many people are interested in their own family trees, and the family history.  As shown by television programmes, many people also take an interest in the family history of famous people, as it shows them just like everyone else, it 'normalises' them.  I am sure that if people were 'not' interested in this subject, then the TV programmes wouldnt be made.  Likewise, I am sure some people on here may well be interested.  Personally I don't think any of us have the right to choose the topics that may or may not interest others - that would be bordering on censorship.  Instead, topics are created, and it is upto each individual whether they choose to take part in the conversation.

Having a few celebs in my distant family history, I am always keen to see the histories of others.

I would guess that anyone on here who unexpectedly found out they were related to a celebrity that they liked or had a certain amount of admiration for,  wouldn't hesitate in boasting about it.

Well, FC has already said she found this an interesting topic when it was mentioned in the news forum.  Perhaps she could expand on her interest?

To answer the question, no, not directly.

But if you go back far enough everybody's related to everybody.  That's how so many people can claim links to royalty.  (This interesting fact from a QI program a few weeks back).

She was sued for 500 million i think for presumable plagerising many of the scenes from a book called Willy the wizard by a bloke called Adrian Jacobs I think it is. She won her case

I ve never read Willie the Wizard or HP but having spoken to a teacher who had, he said chunks of it were rehashed by JK

One of my sons informs me that his wife is related to JKR on the Hunter side as is one of my wife's cousins. I found the connection between my daughter-in-law and my wife's cousin quite some time ago whilst researching my wife's family tree. Jokingly I have told my daughter-in-law to name the next grandson Harry with the middle name of Potter!!! As Scorpio says - 'if you go back far enough everbody is related to everbody'. In the course of researching my own Scottish roots I found 3 instances where my mother and father's sides of the family were related through marriages before they ever met!!
