Country star Billy Grammer dies aged 85

Grand Ole Opry star Billy Grammer, best known for his 1959 hit Gotta Travel On, has died aged 85.  The musician died at his home in Illinois of natural causes, spokeswoman Jessie Schmidt said.  The singer, who suffered a heart attack earlier this year, developed the Grammer guitar in 1965.  The flat top instrument became popular with other artists. He donated his first model to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1969.

At my son-in-law's workplace they have a "death club". Its a bit of a lottery, You can choose a famous person over 40 who you think has a good chance of dying for whatever reason, age, danger, drugs, illness, etc and you pay 50p per person selected per week into a kitty. Whoever's person dies first gets the cash.

That's even more morbid than this thread!  What happens if the 'winner' dies first?   Grin

That is a good point. If one of the players dies I guess his share stays in the pot. Surprisingly it's not won that often so the winner usually cops for a few hundred quid.

The cash helps dispel the sadness no doubt.
