OK, so this sounds a bit morbid, but many people like to know if someone they like has passed away.  I propose a thread that can continue through the months, and can be updated as and when needed.  If mods/admins agree, perhaps it can be made sticky, so that it stays near the top of the Lounge?

On Wednesday, Grease actress Annette Charles passed away.

The actress, who also starred in TV series Gunsmoke and The Bionic Woman, was suffering from cancer.  As Cha Cha, she memorably stole the limelight dancing the hand jive with Danny (John Travolta) at the school dance competition.  She continued acting into the late eighties, but latterly moved into teaching near her home in California.  According to reports, she had only recently been diagnosed with cancer - and died from complications linked to the disease.  A family member told US website TMZ: "Annette had recently started having difficulty breathing and when she went to the doctor she learned that she had a cancerous tumour in one of her lungs."

Food and Drink's Michael Barry dies at 69

Michael Barry, known to millions of viewers as a chef on BBC Two's long-running series Food and Drink, has died after a short illness at the age of 69.  Barry fronted the show alongside Chris Kelly and wine experts Jilly Goolden and Oz Clarke from 1984 until it came to an end in 2001.  Goolden paid tribute, telling the BBC he was "a larger than life character, ebullient, warm-hearted and generous".  Affectionately known as "the crafty cook", he also wrote 29 cookery books.

Tennessee Two bassist Marshall Grant dies aged 83

Marshall Grant, a member of Johnny Cash's original band the Tennessee Two, has died in Arkansas aged 83.  The bassist from Mississippi had been in the state for a Johnny Cash Festival and fundraiser when he suffered an aneurysm and stroke, Cash's daughter, Rosanne Cash, said.  Grant played in Cash's band together with guitarist Luther Perkins from 1954-1980.  The trio were known for their "boom-chicka-boom" style beat.  "The Johnny Cash sound was created by the three of them equally," Rosanne Cash told the Associated Press.
