tonight when put my computer on. I was confronted with a notice saying that a floppy disc drive was being installed. Drive A is now there. I don't even have a slot for floppy discs. Can I get rid of it.

Did you plug in a USB stick?  Sometimes the PC will get confused and think its a floppy drive.

if you naviagte to the icon my computer , right click and choose properties then choose device manager look down the list for floppy drive and right click on that icon then choose disable.
