Got a prompt on my Tv this a.m to do a re-tune, so off I go

click into Menu, no problem
click into set up, no problem
then it asks you to choose 'full re-tune' or' default settings' or' first time installation or 'factory reset'
none of those options appear Huh

I have a digital Tv with built in freeview and these are my options in Set Up     ' language' 'country' 'auto tuning' 'dtv manual tuning' 'dtv settings' and 'av connection'

any help appreciated hello

Apparently we might need to do a small one later this month but Nov. is the month. You can do a tune if you've lost any channels at any time.

[Grumpy mood] I presume you received the "Your guide to Switchover For all TV viewers"?  Have you opened / read it? [/Grumpy mood].

Page 13 of that booklet shows 3 headings - the last of which is "When do I need to re-tune in 2011?" It shows the Transmitters in this area.  For us - the official changeover dates are 9 and 23 November BUT there is an additional date "Before Switchover" which is 17 August.

As far as I'm aware you should do these retunes on the dates given, or after - but not before!

You can do a retune whenever you fancy, if nothing has changed you won't notice the difference. The whole digital TV thing is what they call dynamic, not static. On the old system, for instance, BBC2 has been on channel 55 for a very long time. Pretty well everybody had this on their number 2 button, but you could have had it anywhere. Ch 4 was on channel 65, but we stuck it on ch 4, as far as the remote control goes. The new systems are designed to allow a broadcaster to have (and pay for) a nice big chunk of the available spectrum, or a small bit at reduced cost to them. So BBC HD services need a big expensive bit. Some of those TV shopping channels opt for a lot less 'space'. The practical differences for the viewer are not snowy pictures, like we always used to say how good or bad our signal is - but fine detail. If you look at areas of similar colour - so sky, or maybe people's faces, on the lower bandwidth channels, these areas often appear to be exactly the same colour, spots and blemishes are not quite so obvious - but overall the picture still looks solid and good. Sometimes if the camera pans quickly, or the image changes from one with lots of fine detail to a completely new picture with fine detail, the picture goes a little 'blocky' for a second or two - then goes back to normal. This is the downside of having less bandwidth. It rarely happens on BBC, but you see it often on the higher number channels. The retuning needs doing when they squeeze in a new channel into a small gap. It doesn't just appear on your TV, you need to retune so your TV knows it's there. When the old TV channels go, there will be lots more space, so this is when a big retune will be needed. At the moment, they keep jiggling about squeezing new channels in, and moving others to make space - so doing a retune every week, might give you a new channel. Whether you want it is a different matter.

You get no sky tv on analogue, but you get a crafty free taster on freeview - As I can't get freeview at my house, can't say exactly which ones are where. We have freesat and an uncarded Sky plus, which means it doesn't record and many channels are unavailable.
