It seems some people expect a rubbish fairy to take the junk away that they throw on the road and presumably a trolley fairy who removes supermarket trolleys.Presumably both these are on holiday or on strike judging by this mess which has been there a couple of days. People are too lazy to return trolleys or put rubbish in a bin,I wonder what their houses look like.

The council always come and remove the rubbish when told about it but they shouldn't reallt have to.Some people are just too lazy to make any effort to keep things tidy. I've seen rats this side of station square in fact my dogs have killed a few of them. I saw a council employee looking through the rubbish and reading some stuff in it,hopefully they'll be able to trace the people doing this and slap a few fines on them.

It's annoying but some people are like that, don't think about their actions just get rid of it wherever they feel like. I often pick stuff like that up if there's not much of it about, if I don't I feel guilty.

The council have cleaned up that bit about half a dozen times already this month and still people dump black bags and cardboard boxes full off rubbish. Lowestoft is dirty despite the councils efforts and its people living here who make it so. I pick up rubbish too,the other day I was clearing some whilst three foot away a smartly dressed woman opened her fag packet and threw the wrapping on the floor.Sometimes words just fail you.

My rubbish clearing capabilities were tested well this morning too.On the beach near the caravan site I collected a disposable barby,a hald dozen beefburgers a bag of poo and a load of paper and empty tins. Coming home I find a Tesco bag full of old food has been slung on top of the Norse bags of crap behind the Tuttles mess as per usual, next to the ASDA trolley thats been there a couple of months.

Someone after my own heart!..I'd be tempted Funkychick but this time she's innocent. I really feel sorry for the council cleaners, time after time they come up and down this road,I know its a part of their job but it must be pretty soul destroying to see your best efforts negated so quickly.

I agree with you,for too long the foul mouthed yobs have had it all their own way and frightened people into not saying anything. A few weeks back someone at the traffic lights at the bingo threw his half eaten KFC rubbish out of the car window as me and a couple of people stood waiting to cross. His window was wide open and the lights were on red.It landed at the feet of the bloke next to me. He soon got his own back,so to speak.

Another day and the same old problem more bags of household waste and the remains of take away food dumped all over the alleyway. I wasn't there at half past ten last night,I walked past there as the police arrived to yet another domestic fight going on in the flats on the corner but it was here in the morning. Easy to see where the rats come from with all this junk being dumped on a daily basis. Incidentally out of curiosity,if no one is allowed to live in the wreck of the old Tuttles building why have net curtains appeared up the windows on part of the second floor, did the pigeons put them up?

People in the indian restaurant have a large flat above the shop, where many of the workers seem to live. But their entrance/exit is round the back near your shop, not the back of Suffolk Road. They don't have access to Suffolk Road from there, its all blocked off. Their way in and out is a communal one, shared with the fire exit for Age Concern.

I assume you mean they go in and out via Waveney Road. WDC turned down a planning application to convert part of the Tuttles building into residential so I'm not sure how the Indian restaurant people can live there. When I spoke to him some time ago he told me it was simply storage, but I haven't seen many storage rooms with net curtains.Maybe that explains all the half eaten food etc as the flats presumably don't have domestic bins.

The nocturnal dumping of muck and filth continues. This was the council cleaners latest reward for cleaning the area. The Norse bags filled with all sorts of rubbish from the beauty parlour have been pulled open again by the seagulls but then someone has dumped a tele, dog bed and other junk on top of the.Still the rubbish normally piled up behond the flats has now gone down.Thats a coincidence. I've just found out the last clear up wasn't the council,it was a guy from the offices.

Ten minutes after the council spent still more money clearing up the last load of junk another load was left. I suppose the landlords who specialise in filling their grubby flats and bed sits with the human flotsam that leave this junk and rubbish all over the place aren't concerned in the slightest, maybe a few hefty fines would concentrate their minds and rempver the attraction of providing housing for people that other landlords wouldn't touch with a very long bargepole.

I finally caught the bloke whos dog keeps fouling the paths and alley and the people who keep dumping rubbish all over the place.I took some pictures of them in action and sent statements to the council along with a note that I'd be willing to go to court if they wanted to prosecute. The council have done absolutely nothing,in fact it took two attempts to even get a reply. No wonder this town is filthy.

A £2k fine for dropping litter or dog fouling is totally pointless if nobody ever gets fined. It's like with your kids, they only need a smack on the bum once or twice to get the picture.

I've done that too. However,if you notice a dog fouling and get a load of abuse etc write or remember all you can about it and then phone Enviromental Health. The telephone number is 526111 or you can fax them on 523150.The person dealing with it is a Mick Southwick.Ask him to send you a form to report dog fouling. The form states that your support is vital to enable them to maintain a clean and safe public spaces. I have filled in such a form today to ensure they have my support in this instance. You can be sure I'll be reporting back here what finally happens . We don't have to put up with this.

It took me three goes to even find out there is a form but I wouldn't be fobbed off and demanded I got one. I've sent it off and I promise to let you know what happens,if I don't get anywhere it will be the chief executive who'll have to explain to me why not. I'm fed up with the dog mess and the rubbish dumped every few days in the alley. I've sent off a photo and info on the person doing that as well. However the last time I tried to help catch this dirty so and so the CCTV team were supposed to be looking at their tapes and as they had an exact time and pretty good description you'd thing they'd have been able to do something. They haven't even bothered to tell me what if anything happened. I'll give them one last chance,or the Chief Executive will have even more to do. Enoughs enough.

two more people have written and spoken to the council about dog mess, bothi identifying the same individual as I have already so I'll let you know what happens on that score in a couple of days. Three more bags of smelly household rubbish were dumped behind Tuttles yet again. This time rather than wait for the 'Enforcement Team' who would win a gold medal for dawdling in the forthcoming olympics,I went through the bags myself.I found a couple of dozen or more letters from the DHSS,Job centre (you have to laugh) and various court summonses and final demands all made out to the same person,so unless there are people who make a habit of collecting opened letters all to the same person and putting them in their rubbish and then dumping it in the street I think just about anyone can work out where they come from. To avoid tearing anyone away from their nice warm office and comfy chairs I have phoned that information through to the council and once again promise to keep you informed.

I've sent photos and statements to the council time and again and still the same person lets his dog poo all round the alley ways round here. Its never on a lead and tackling him brings the response "I'll come back and clear it up". He never does. Someones going to end up doing something they regret before long, and you can bet the courts will be far more ready to punish anyone taking the law into their own hands than those who chose to make a habit out of simply ignoring them in the first place.

I've tried that FC,to be honsest the filthy state of the place means he probably doesn't even notice. This isn't really down to the council people at 'shop floor level' either, its the big chiefs who have got rid of the street wardens and dog wardens and quietly got rid of various inspectors etc who would normally respond to issues like this.Naturally they do it quietly so that the flak is received by those trying to carry out single handed work that two or more people would have done.Probably all done to save money, although there's still plenty of waste and high salaries that could have been attended to first. I bet if any of the council big wigs were standing in dog poo outside their posh houses on a regular basis something would soon get done.

It is crazy. The council have been yet again to clear up the weekly dumping of household rubbish in the alley.Same addresses on the letters from the job centre etc inside as on nearly all the other fifty or more times they've been. Can someone explain how its cheaper to get rid of the people who'd chase up and prosecute these dirty so and sos than to keep buning out on a van and two blokes to clean up behind them?. This town really is filthy and scruffy and its despite the efforts of the cleaners who I think deserve a round of applause for doing a dirty and unrewarding job week in and week out when those above them seem determined to make it much more difficult for them to do so. I bet anyone dumping rubbish outside Bees house or any other of those 'saving us money' would soon result in someone getting their collar felt. For the rest of us,we're expected to walk round it.

Because it's incredibly expensive to prosecute someone. Especially someone who they would never be able to recover court costs from. WDC have to look at the best use of money, and giving it to solicitors in large sacks is probably less useful than using the money to pay for cleaning teams who can also do other cleaning as well.
This town really is filthy and scruffy I think you can only speak for the part of town where you live OS. I live in the heart of Oulton Broad, and while it's not always the neatest, it's never filthy or scruffy. Same can be said for Carlton Colville and Pakefield, in my opinion.

My comments are directed more to my area. You have a good point, prosecuting someone who has no money other than the benefits they happily collect is going to be pretty pointless, maybe its the system thats wrong. It still doesn't excuse these dirty slobs from littering the place up in the first place anyway.

No it doesn't. And unfortunately because of the way the prosecution system works, the accused will plead poverty and get a tiny fine. This does nothing to deter, and effectively they'll be giving benefit money back to the govt by paying it at £1 a week for six months.
It's a shame that punishments can't be made to fit the crime better. Why not, if found guilty of fly tipping, be made to do cleaning duties around the town. Clearing fly tipping or clearing up snowdrops dog poo. It could be made so that based on min wage, they would have to work as many hours as it took to pay back the equivalent of double the court costs. That way, what the council has spent on the prosecution it gets back at double the amounts worth of free labour.
A fine is meaningless to someone who has no money.

I definitely agree with that sort of punishment, but knowing what this country's like nowadays there would be human rights issues and/or health and safety worries for the offender...

Total agreement from me too. In parts of Germany and Russia litter louts and graffitti artists are made to clear the area they have messed up.A pal of mine saw this in action a few years ago and said the streets were absolutley spotless. He said the authorities provided a rather large policeman or two to enforce the clean up operations, apparently they aren't averse to providing a well polished boot to the rear of any of those they think aren't embracing the clean up enthusiastically enough. My God,you can almost hear the bleeding heart brigade over here wailing about abuses of their 'human rights'.

I've just cleaned up another load of dog mess and a bag of refuse. It's official, unless an council officer actually sees someone dumping rubbish or letting his dog mess all over your property nothing will happen. As these officers don't come out of their office anyway the chances of them actually seeing anyone, far less doing anything about it are absolutely zero. You can take all the pictures you want, write all the statements and fill in all the forms that the desk bound council officers will send you but unlike other councils they will take no action. Is it any wonder that lowestoft is filthy or indeed suprising that people are inclined to find their own solutions to dealing with the dirty individuals that cost us all a lot of money as somer poor soul goes round cleaning up behind them?. If anyone saw the program on television last night that included the work of Liverpool council they'd have noticed that WDC do things differently to others re rubbish. Then again they do things differently in lots of other ways too so it should come as no suprise.

Wish I could catch the person who lets their dog mess outside my front door. As my front door is directly on to the road (no pavement ) there's a good chance I'm going to put my foot in it especially in the dark .I'll get it's photo if I can and hope the local police take more notice than your lot .

Sorry but the police are a dead loss too. The bloke fouling round here never has his dog on a lead, which is against the law anyway, the police says its the responsability of the dog warden. Trouble is WDC got rid of the one we had. I suppose when it bites some kiddy all hell will be let loose and there'll be even more buck passing than there is now.

Much as I enjoy knocking WDC (and a lot of the time I think they deserve it) I feel many of there problems are caused by poor decision making higher up the chain of command. The abolition of the dog warden, street warden and slimming down of staff was an excuse to save money (and one councils are happy to hide behind) but it doesn't work. The rubbish in my area is cleared up time and time again and it must cost far far more than investigating and taking some sort of action against the slobs who leave it. The dogs mess problem would also sort itself out as its the same people. The excuse though, that action can't be taken unless these people are caught in the act by the council officers themselves just wont wash any more.Other councils take action based on what they find inside or around the rubbish,as has been shown on TV and in the press. This council it seems are unwilling or unable to,I think we are entitled to know why.
