Water supply pipe « Posted: 20 July 2011 at 04:05 PM »

We need a new water supply pipe from the water meter into our bungalow.  Essex and Suffolk Water Company do not do this work so we need to find a reputable firm to do it.  Can anyone recommend a competent person to do the job please?

Anglian Water don't do any water work in Lowestoft. I don't think they do any private work at all, same as E&SW.

Your best bet would be a reputable builder.

East point dont you just need a qualified private plumber I dont think the water companies offer these services.

Thanks everyone.  No, Essex and Suffolk Water don't do this type of work.  Had them here yesterday to test the 'flow' and they said the pipe needs replacing but they only replace pipework outside the property (in the road) and that pipework is OK.  OH is going to ask a builder friend but, if no joy, will pm you Snowdrop - thanks. Any other recommendations though are welcome.

EP I may be talking out of turn but had a feeling SD had previously said her sister worked for E & S Water or anglian water

I know two good plumbers but no idea if they are looking for jobs or full up if you get no joy come back to me and I'll find out for you

Thanks Funky, didn't realise that about SD's sister.  It isn't just plumbing though - a trench has to be dug out in the front garden and part of the pipework has to go under a concrete floor, so may be a difficult job. OH will talk to his friend tomorrow but I will pm SD as well.  Thanks.

If you are able to wait under October, new laws coming into effect mean that the water companies will then be liable for any pipework between the house and the road.

J. J. I think that only applies to sewerage pipes.

There's changes coming in - from 1st October 2011, concerning sewage pipes.  I had a small booklet with my Anglian Water bill earlier in the week.  Have retrieved the booklet from the blue bin - to see what it's about!

They have a website: www.anglianwater.co.uk/sewerswitchover

I would imagine that everyone should be getting a letter and leaflet about it.  I got one earlier this week.   It also means it will put up their charges in due course (from 2014).
