Windows 7 Updates « Posted: 15 July 2011 at 09:34 AM »

On 13th July had Security updates from Microsoft for Windows 7 and a couple for MS Office.   These were all successfully installed.  Today, I’ve had an Updates advice message - and I thought the updates seemed familiar.  When I checked they seemed to be the same ones I received and installed on 13 July.

Don’t seem to recall this happening before (double issue!).  Has anyone else received these update messages in the last couple of days?  icon_scratch

Very true.  But it does seem odd that each and every one of the updates that I received on 12/13 July - has now got an update of its own.  It will be interesting to see if these latest updates to the original updates receives an update.

Just an update to this Topic -

Well, a thought really - have there been any updates since the 12 July?  None appear in update history, and requesting Windows Updates merely, frustratingly, brings forth (yet again) the 12 July ones.  Anyone know a way of killing this ****** update which is already installed - and giving me cause to consider changing to an Apple iMac!  Wink

Re: Windows 7 Updates « Reply #7 Posted: 03 August 2011 at 06:45 AM »

thanks sd - but it won’t help me
Mine is set to “Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them” - which suits me.  Unfortunately, this one update is ‘a pain in the proverbials’ as I’ve already installed and don’t want to do so again.  I just wish that it had a facility to totally reject an update that is not wanted.
It’s just strange that it’s been so long since there’s been a new update.

I've had several this week, ones which have left probs in their wake. Twice I've had to do a system restore after they have come in.

Meryl - they haven't appeared for me - but with the "problems" think I'd rather not have them!  Smiley

But - have found a further puzzlement!  Have been rummaging around in the Update area and noticed the following:

In the 13 July update list there were three Security Updates for Windows 7 amongst that batch which were the last updates installed.

But, clicking on “Uninstall an Update” shows a further 2 Security Updates (KB2544521 & KB2482017) as having been installed on 26 July 2011.   icon_scratch

Think it's a case of "Apple" here I come - core!   Grin

I too have had problems although I m not sure what caused or cured them, these darned gremlins. Some of my favourite websites wouldnt respond including LOL I restored and removed etc e.c It also happened on 12th July! in the end and in frustration I removed a whole load of stuff including Skype, no difference, then I removed my free AVG and bingo all went back to normal, however that is not the end of the story the next day I was back to square one again and certain websites would not respond, I was ready to throw the computer by now, I went back in to programmes and AVG sat looking at me although I had had confirmation it had been uninstalled and I had seen it dissappear, so I went through the process of uninstalling it again only to get the message AVG is already uninstalled, yeah so I  decided to put AVG back on with the intention of uninstalling it, however as soon as I put AVG back on all became ok I still have no idea of what went wrong on July 12th to cause this bother

I have had no updates recently

It is always advisable to apply the updates to your operating system (Windows if a PC) and Java which is a programming language see this link to find out a bit more about Java.   If they are not being applied automatically you are advised to install them when requested.

I don't have those problems SD as I don't play computer games.  I just keep my software up-to-date and don't seem to have the problems.  Of course if you are downloading it are you installing it as well?   Some software also requires the computer to be re-booted before the installed updates take effect.

Sunny - it would have been best to install the Java update.   Just because it said “it would give advice, info, of Facebook” doesn’t mean you have to join facebook.  I have no interest in FB and will never join it!  Grin

http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp - This is the Java download page to get Version 6 Update 31

Re: Windows 7 Updates « Reply #28 Posted: 13 April 2012 at 05:29 PM »

You should use Trigger's link Sunny, I used that site the other day because a web site I was using would not work and I received a "java" error message. When I clicked to download java it checked my system first to see if it needed upgrading (it did). It would usually download an installer file first and on my Windows7 system the filename displays at the bottom left of my screen - I just click on it and the install runs on its own. You can't really go wrong other than downloading the new java installer but not running it.
