Re: EURO LOTTERY WINNER « Reply #3 Posted: 13 July 2011 at 01:50 PM »

Why is it I can't win anything big on the lottery YET by travelling back and forth along the same road 6 days a week for over 30 years, to and from work,  I recently got nabbed for inadvertently exceeding the speed limit (in a 40mph zone), which cost me £84 to take a Driver Awareness Course (rather than accept a lesser fine and 3 points on my licence). I can WIN the 'who gets nabbed speeding lottery' BUT not the big cash one!!!!

In fairness to Robbie I have met numerous people who have been caught lately after having exemplarary driving record for years. One in particular was only a couple of mph over in a completely empty road at 5am in the morning . I know rules are rules....

i feel empathy but no sympathy robbi driven down that rd for 30yrs,and he forgot the speed restrictions....robbie i am sure is good driver, and that is the argument a good driver cocks up after 30yrs on same rd,then god help us from the idiot drivers driving down A12 for first time.
You only got robbies word this is first time over speed limit,my experiece with car drivers that truth and fiction gets alittle blurred at times. No take offence robbie it not personel

I wasn't looking for sympathy SD - just trying to compare one 'lottery' with another 'lottery'.
I can truthfully state that this is my first driving offence in 56 or so years of driving both motorcycles and cars. I'm not really complaining about it - I broke the law (7 miles over the 40 limit!!!!)  and accept the punishment. I guess I'll meet those who were  in front of me at the time and those travelling behind me when I attend the course on the 25th of this month.!!!! - I requested photographic evidence to back up the notification I received which clearly shows other vehicles (that's if they opt to take the course). Other motorists please note that the camera (mobile unit) that caught me was on the opposite side of the road and I was travelling away from it at the time.

About 2 years ago, I was caught by a mobile speed camera TWICE in just FOUR MINUTES. Once in one direction and the same unit coming back. When I received two speeding notification tickets I thought they had duplicated one ticket.
I was only doing a young lady friend a favour at the time.  Some expensive favour !

BB: Heading towards Lowestoft.  Between the traffic lights opposite the James Paget hospital and the roundabout before the start of the A12 dual carriageway. It must have been parked next to the only house on the JPH side of the road. I suspect tucked up behind a large van that is nearly always parked there (sneaky!!). The photo of my car shows me passing the large roadsign midway between there and the roundabout. I wouldn't have been doing over 40 before the traffic lights as I would be anticipating them to possibly change. I therefore exceeded the speed limit for no more that a couple of hundred yards as I would then have slowed down at the roundabout!!! Grrrr!

They are often there. Hidden one side or other of the big DIY van, depending on which side of the road they are targetting.
I sometimes suspect that they may own that DIY van.

There's no layby where you say, is there?   If so the vehicle must be parked on the verge/footpath - isn't that illegal?   Send them a fine in return!   Grin

As you say BB there is no layby at that point. The DIY SOS van that parks there in on the grass verge. I assume that the camera unit was also parked likewise, otherwise it would have been obstructing the footpath. I might raise the point you make when I attend the course!!!! I suppose this all keeps a few people in work!!!
The camera may well be set up within the DIY van,  Freelance  !!!

I think it's a valid pont - why are they allowed to illegally park  if you are not allowed to illegally speed?

My ex partner had a police lady come to the door at 7am one morning ( some years  back ) during the Christmas holiday period to give him a parking ticket as his back wheel was over the double yellow lines - guess what she had parked completely on the double yellow lines to come and give him the ticket. He used that to try and get off the fine but it didnt wash at all and we were told that when they ( the police )arnt sure of a situation that could perhaps prove  problematic, they can park anywhere. Those who say it doesn't make you happy are just jealous.  I challenge anyone who says that to practise what they preach & refuse a big win.

Has anyone ever turned down a lottery, pools or other big cash win?  Ever?

Money cannot bring you happiness, all it will do is to allow you to enjoy your misery, some of these great wins are obscene and it has a far greater chance of bringing you misery.
The  very most important thing in life is contentment and if you have that you are rich indeed.

I certainly would not go public with that much but I am quite happy going public with the fact that I won £11.60.

No begging letters please

I would imagine that, once they've gone public, they'll be inundated with Begging letters.

Re: EURO LOTTERY WINNER « Reply #28 Posted: 15 July 2011 at 03:57 PM »

Why does it matter if they go public?
With that amount of money I'm sure they can hire an assistant to weed out the begging letters before they get to see them.

What annoys me more is the fact they've said they're not flashy, and that they're going to buy their two kids a house each.
Also said that with great wealth comes great responsibility. Why?
You have £161m Why do you have to be responsible with it? It's winnings, not earned, so get out and fritter a couple of million away. You can afford to be very irresponsible so why not spoil yourself.

It really bugs me how so many big lottery winners turn around and say they won't let it change their lives. What the hell was the point of buying a ticket if not to change your lives?  icon_scratch

Id probably give about £100m of it to different charities, ones that aren't so much in the public eye and find it difficult to raise funds, id reckno id get plenty of satisfaction out of doing that. It would be a waste just to have it sitting in an account doing nothing, making bankers rich...

James. with £161 Million you could fund a new third road crossing for Lowestoft and still have loads to spare.  At least you'd go down in Lowestoft's history.

Looks like Orange News website were hacking the wrong phone!! On an  earlier post I stated that the jackpot winners came from Falkirk according to Orange. Then only a hour or so ago I heard on BBC Radio 5 Live that they in fact reside in Largs, Ayrshire!!!!! Where ever they are the press will eventually track them down!!!

I was quite taken aback when I saw pictures of the lucky winners on TV tonight. They are rather large people, aren't they?. Too many fried Mars Bars?? I am aware that some people can't help being the size they are due to medical conditions but it always makes me think that people, who work or have worked in the health field (the lady is an ex nurse!), obviously don't heed their own warnings when they tell others to lose weight. On my rare visits to the JP Hospital I observe quite a lot of the staff who could do with losing quite a few pounds. I bet a large proportion of them also smoke as well!
