You seem to be having a bad week, Trigger. I have had those problems in the past. I now use my printer with bluetooth as it is upstairs in a spare room (it's A3 and too big to have in the same room as my laptop). I suggest you swich off the printer and close the computer down, then switch on the printer before restarting your computer and see if that solves the problem. Also check in the printer settings that the printer you are using is showing as the default printer.

No, it's just these last couple of days!
Will try the course of action you suggest - if you hear a loud scream, you'll know it hasn't worked!!
May sneak onto the bridge after midnight tonihgt and drop these "devices" over the edge . . . .

BB: Followed your instructions - also ran a Cannon printer (MP560) test and - wait for it - the printer is working!! So - many thanks for suggestion - I've two letters that should have gone today, have just printed them off (in case it doesn't work tomorrow! Thanks again.
Now I've just got to get this MP working - perhaps it's a "Terminal" case! Perhaps I'll have to get the PC checked over.

Just a question on this subject of my Media Player (MS) - I have downloaded VCL - but cannot get it to play CDs nor DVDs. Whilst I realise that the problem could well be to do with the “Big Nut” sitting in front of the computer - I do get the impression that, for some reason, the MP device isn’t “talking to” / “connecting with” the disc. I’m hoping that my “explanation” makes a bit of sense!
If this is what’s happening - then it suggests that my PC may need to undergo surgery!

If you open My Computer can you see the DVD drive listed, (maybe Drive D:\ ) ?
If you put a DVD in the drive, after a few seconds, does the name of the disc appear beside the DVD in the My Computer window?
It's possible your DVD drive has failed. It's a quick and cheap job to get replaced if that is the case.

Thanks Paul - that's what I needed to know. Followed your clear instructions - and MP doesn't "read" the disc (tried CD & DVD). So, it'll have to be hospitalised!
Much appreciated
