Give the man a break. We all know he is a bit of a wind-up merchant, but not all of us live on here all day long. He can leave the room when he wishes. He will be back.

Thanks for the patience.
As others said, I was away - in town working at the charity shop. Now back, and checking emails etc. I leave my PC on most of the time, so when it says I'm online, it may be fibbing.
I left a comment saying the website broke the law, 'after' I had looked through the website concerned and emailed them directly. It is only a minor thing, but they do not have a mailing address anywhere on the site. This may seem small, but several years ago Argos themselves were fined many thousands by the Office of Fair Trading for exactly the same thing, as were many other companies. It is part of trading law that any business must display a certain amount of things on every place they trade - and this includes advertisements such as websites. These include the mailing address, contact telephone number, email address, name of person to contact, registration number if a limited company or partnership etc. In this particular case, they had most things on the site but no mailing address.
I have around 45 sites of my own, and own 93 domains at present. I don't make much money from any of them, as they all need updating and/or money spent on advertising them which I do not have. I don't pretend to know everything there is to know about internet law, which is a very complex situation encompassing many grey areas surrounding international trading. I do however know a fair bit; it is like being a Jack of all trades but master of none! I also know a little about computers, and help people where possible. A bit like others I guess.

thank you for explaining this JJ, all I would say is that the company in question hasnt got their mailing address on the site for a very valid reason, with the large spate of local burgalaries in the area they chose not to have there personal address details shown as they are not at their home address which is their business address most of the time , some criminals recently have been targeting businesses in this way,

Well i had no idea on that JJ, so any company big or small has to have the address and telephone number on their website.

Yes.
Personal sites naturally are not included, but if it is in anyway connected to a business, whether it is a shop site or merely what is known as a businesscard site, it must display many different things including names and addresses. Argos got into trouble because although they had their 'site finder' option to find their individual stores, they didnt have a customer contact address for complaints etc. Some people may remember a year or 2 ago, when Oulton Broad-based computer company, CDS, got into trouble with Trading Standards for a similar thing on their website. Normally, Trading Standards will send you a warning letter giving you 28 days to correct things. It is only after several months of refusal to do so that court action would be taken.
Twice had to deal with Trading Standards as a business myself.
1. Customer complained about us (print shop), and despite thinking we were in the right it was easier in the end to simply refund them and be a bit out of pocket than risk being sued by Trading Standards.
2. Holland & Barrett do not price all of their items correctly in the legally accepted manner. I reached a compromise with Trading Standards, but before I could implement it I was fired. As far as I know, the new manager never got round to implementing the pricing changes.
Laws on trading can be a minefield, as hardly any small business has the time to know and follow them all. Often it is merely a 'fingers crossed' scenario!

This is hardly a good security policy though. Security through obscurity is never 100%. They should do two things, get an alarm system installed in their business premises and update their site to show their works address.
Customers are more confident using a business if they have a postal address for said business. I'm sure we're all put off by a company that has only a mobile phone number as a point of contact, I know I would never use such a business. At least they have a landline number.
Oh and it looks like their mailto link is broken, the address on the site doesn't match the mailto address. There are several other errors and old style web stuff going on there too. Free templates aren't always up to date.

I have used A1ST and would happily use them again. They were prompt, efficient, friendly and very reasonably priced.
