As I often use public transport more bus routes and a more frequent service on some routes would be appreciated but the routes have to be profitable to the bus companies. As to whom run the services, I am not bothered as long as their buses are road worthy, clean and comfortable and they employ well mannered and polite staff.

I want the Lowestoft Corporation buses back too. I used to use one that went down Norwich Road to take me to Kensington Gardens many years ago when I lived in Rotterdam Road.

The Corporation busses only travelled from north to south & vice versa, it was a great service with the polite drivers & conductors in addition to that the Eastern Counties ran busses from the station to Oulton Broad along victoria road & back to the station and one going the opposite direction from station to station but it's pie in the sky to ever expect it to return As I remember it used to cost me a 1d.(Thats less than a half a P) to ravel from Duke's Head street to the station, if you had got on the bus at the Park it would have cost 1 1/2d.

well i cant remember it being a penny but maybe You're not as old as I thought then FC, or maybe you just lived half-way along the corporation bus route. I used to get on the bus at the Elm Tree Road crossroads to the Odeon for the tanner rush on a Saturday morning. It was 1p to the station but jumped to a penny-ha'penny to get off at the Odeon as I recall.

Do you think this is an age thing,I probably would not use the buses if I had to pay unless I got rid of car.The younger people don't use them.I don't think my sons have been on a local bus since they were children, too easy to get in the car.

Bless you Frankie what a compliment you thought I was a very old woman now you think I m slightly younger haha
Its probably more like my memory cant remember how much things cost in the old days I used (as a kid) be put on the bus at Gunton to go to my nans in kirkley we knew all the drivers and conducters by name. I used to be sat on the end long seat near the conducter so he could keep an eye on me and make sure I got off at the right stop He would chat away to me and give me the ends of his ticket rolls The traffic was two way and the bus stop just a few houses away from my Nan. No phones to let my Mum and Dad know I had arrived ok

I'll be honest, I can't remember the last time I used the buses in this town, But on a recent holiday to North Yorkshire I used their bus services alot and WOW! Very smart clean comfortable fleet of vehicles, polite helpful drivers and they ran on time....Bus operators of Lowestoft, Take note!

I can just about remember the Corporation Buses. I have a very vivid memory from when I was a toddler. My mum used to catch the bus with me at the bottom of Tedder Road, and one day after we got off the bus and headed up Tedder Road to home, the bus conductor came running up the road behind us waving my favourite teddy i'd just left on the bus!! Happy Days.

As I ve said on here before I used to travel as a young child from Gunton estate to Kirkley, only one bus straight through, my mum would put me to sit by the conducter who 'looked after' me and then my nan met me off at the other end they were good days Smiley and I d be really happy if the condeucter gave me the end of his ticket reel with some wound up tickets still on.
I also remember it would be in the 80's my daughter going on her first holiday abroad and getting to the station realising she had left her passport at home, rang me up on the payphone ( no mobiles) I got a neighbour to run me down ( no car) and they held the train up till I got there Cant imagine that happening now haha

yeah the X99 that was a good route, however due to E.U ruling bus companies are restricted to operate routes under 25 miles. If its over the driver has to be trained and the bus must have a tachograph fitted which can cost up to £40 a day. so thats probably why

Wish there was a bus that went from Pakefield to the James Paget so as to save changing buses at Gordon Road bus station.
