ISP unhappiness « Posted: 25 May 2011 at 11:41 AM »

This page has been suggested by jamesw82 - because of frustration with his ISP - and I know there a few others with ISP problems. So now’s your chance to “get it off your chest”!

Orange broadband problems

Using some of the posts i posted on May chit chat 2011, here are the details of the downtime i've had with my connections through Orange broadband

On May 9th in the evening i was surfing the web as i normally do and all of a sudden websites refused to load up, they kept timing out and an email i was composing couldn't be sent. It was left overnight into the 10th as sometimes it rights iteslf but it didnt on this occaision. All throughout this all the lights on my router were on that should be on.

May 10th;
I spent about half an hour on the phone to the same call centre most probably they wanted to test my router even though i knew there was nothing wrong with it, i was then transferred to someone more technical who seemed to know a bit more, he suggested in my area there was some 'migration works' being done to make it faster for all customers and this would be complete by the 19th. He said to wait 24 hours and if no change to call again and get them to cancel this work. Im just hoping it will be back soon as i dont fancy callong and 0844 number and going though all the hoops with someone i can barely understand...
May16th;
My enforced absence continues as home internet supplied normally very reliably by Orange is still having problems downloading websites and sending email. I can receive emails in my outlook but cant send any. It will be a whole 7 days by this evening. Apparently it's due to some 'migration works' designed to improve speed but i cant see why it would cause so much disruption. I can look at this site on my phone but my phone is a bit slow so have been lurking about, just not signed in. I've found a forum called orangeproblems .co.uk and found a thread with similar complaints to mine

May21st;
Im typing this from my phone as internet still playing up. We are fed up with Orange broadband, their customer service from their indian call centre is truly rubbish and they are clueless. Anybody out there with orange who has no problems as yet i hope they dont get any as i wouldn't want anyone to go through what we've been through over the last 2 weeks. its annoying too we cant get on the internet to look at other providers!... i've got a lot to do when i do get online again, its gettng depressing.

Im getting very fed up with them now. they seem obsessed with testing the router and ignoring the fact the error messages i get consist of server errors or no information was sent by the server, so its them, not me.

After another call to Orange customer (dis)services, a promised call back from them at noon today never materialised, suprise suprise, they seem a very dishonest bunch there, maybe i need to bribe them a few million rupees to get anywhere fast. The future's not bright with orange, its damn well pitch black...

May23rd;
Had a chap from Northbridge call round this morning, knew his stuff pretty well, tried all things we could try and its definantly problem with Orange, they cancelled the migration and it seems this is why im having a problem some other users have also mentioned. The Northbridge chap spoke to Orange customer services for me and managed to get through to someone more technical and the outcome was they were going to run a few tests on the line for an hour or 2 and ring my mobile when this has been done (no called received yet...) and maybe just maybe things maybe ready to go within 48 hours... Apparently my migration was indeed cancelled and this seems to be the problem. I'll have to wait and see over next day or 2

It might be worth reading through: http://www.orangeproblems.co.uk/phpBB2/

After reading your saga - I think I’d be tearing my hair out (which wouldn’t take long!)

This all seems very familiar as when I was with Orange and having problems they always told me it was work 'in my area' and were also always obsessed with the router and the problems around that, that didnt exist I also had a bit of delay and trouble in leaving ( getting MAC code etc)but since I ve been gone have been so pleased

I've been reading the Orange problems website, i have signed up to it and still awaiting validation of membership from the site admin there for 2 weeks! i think they've gone to sleep or that site has been taken over by Orange Roll Eyes

I found a lot of info about MAC codes and changing ISP etc... so will try and familiarise myself later.

I am surprised James at all that trouble you have, must say I have been with Orange ever since they took over, and have had no trouble at all, but reading of yours, I will definitely keep my fingers crossed, that`s for sure, I do hope you get it settled soon, that is very bad for so long.

This mantra that some ISPs chant out: “There’s work being done in the exchange” (I would think there always is!) / “There’s work being done in your area” (Well, there’s a surprise!) - I’ve been hearing about this from various sources (NOT my ISP!) - which many of them have latched seems to be an easy way out for them - and hopefully might placate the customers.  It’s up to the customers to say “Enough’s enough!”  There's lots of ISPs out there.

If the “pain” you are suffering through poor service, poor bb (speeds, etc) from your ISP is so bad, you - the customer have a simple decision to make.  You either put up with the rubbish service - and do nothing about it (other than continue to pay for the rubbish service) - or you do something about - pronto.  The choice is yours. Simple.
