Oh, bother! I was really looking forward to going out tomorrow and enjoying myself. Now I'll sit at home and wait . . . . err, how will I know the world has ended? Will they announce it on TV?

Think it was 9pm, local time all over the world, meaning that they have a few hours left..... Mind you, it all depends on whether the Aussies and Kiwis are considered 'worthy' to ascend! lol

The end of the world is nigh; 21 May, to be precise. That's the date when Harold Camping, a preacher from Oakland, California, is confidently predicting the Second Coming of the Lord. At about 6pm, he reckons 2 per cent of the world's population will be immediately "raptured" to Heaven; the rest of us will get sent straight to the Other Place. Well I've been out to the pub and must've missed the second coming. Did anyone sky+ it?
It's amazing what the sandal brigade will believe. I've been told that the reason I'm not "raptured" to heaven now is because I'm such a sinner and should repent so that I can be "saved". I'm sorry but when will these people realise that the book they're reading and leading their lives by is actually a story book? I used to read "Where's Wally" books, but I don't believe that some bloke in a stripey jumper and hat is my saviour. (although it would be cooler than some bloke with a beard, a smock and sandals)

From memory, I actually think he said that some would be part of the Rapture, whilst the rest would be left on Earth to suffer for several years until the 2nd coming. Does make me wonder whether I have been refused access.... how would I know?!

I wonder what excuse these oddities will come up with now their predications are, once again, shown to be a load of baloney? Apparently, their spokesman’s excuse the last time was “blamed an earlier apocalyptic prediction which passed quietly in 1994 on a mathematical error”. Perhaps he needs to get a calculator.

Well, he got it wrong for 1994 (mathematical error), got it wrong this month, will probably get it wrong again in Occtober. I suppose he'll get it right one day - then he'll say "I told you so!"

'Rapture', as far as I understand it, isnt about the end of the world as such - this is just media hype. It is simply a name given to when those that are deemed worthy will ascend into Heaven (not literally up though!), and then all others will be left on earth. There would be months/years of the world as it is getting slowly worse regarding natural disasters and little wars, that would build up to become basically like hell on earth (a nasty place to live in as food shortages and general bad stuff happening make it an unhappy place). The Bible then talks about a new age, where there will be peace and harmony on earth. The problem with all the predictions is that when talking about 'when' something is going to happen, is that time nowadays is measured differently to 2000 years ago, and 10,000 years ago etc. A day in 'biblical' times could well have been a year, or 10 years - it is hard for us to know. It is therefore almost impossible to 'predict' when something like this will happen.
I do believe that something like the 'Rapture' as described will happen at some point in the future, but I don't believe we can pinpoint the day, let alone the time.

No one knows about that day or the hour [of the end of the world], not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son of God, but only God the Father" Matthew ch.24 v.36 (certain American evengelical Bible scholars missed that verse!)
Some people do not help the cause of Christianity, I too am a believer, but do not profess to understand all of Gods plans, I wouldn't even try too! It is after all, faith

if i had to have a relgion it would be cross between quakers and buddist....i have spiritual belifes and i think that crosses over to what ever faith people say they have.dangerous when take bible koran etc word to word...Do you really think things are worse? i dont agree, there always been wars and humans have used every ounce they can with killing machines be it wooden club or bombs we just got better communication to know what is happening now.Climate change is always happening and natural disasters prob worse in times gone by than now it just we breed to much for poor old planet to sustain us. us humans can only think in liniar time,it hard to concieve a dimension without it.i surppose that must be the rapture when we can do that. if just followed jesus nobody else forget old testerment and paulian parts of new testerment it would be a relgion i could be proud of and nicer world but we dont it sad

There’s an interesting article on the BBC webpages “Rapture: Harold Camping issues new apocalypse date” - which starts:
“The evangelical broadcaster who left followers crestfallen by his failed prediction that last Saturday would be Judgement Day says he miscalculated. Harold Camping said it had "dawned" on him that God would spare humanity "hell on Earth for five months" and the apocalypse would happen on 21 October. Mr Camping said he felt "terrible" about his mistake. But he said he could not give financial advice to those who spent their life savings in the belief the end was nigh.”

Reading an article in the New York Times - headed: “An Autumn Date for the Apocalypse”, I noticed the following paragraph:
But Mr. Camping said his company — which is a non-profit — would also not return donations given by his followers in advance of the May 21 prediction. “We’re not at the end,” he said, “Why would we return it?”
