Lancaster flypast
« Posted: 07 May 2011 at 11:38 PM »
Incredible though it seems, it was a year ago when the BBMF Dakota did a display at the Dragon Boat Race event. Tomorrow the BBMF's Lancaster is doing a flypast (x 3 runs max) which will be worth looking out for.
Report in the LJ says 1.10 pm, but the BBMF's diary makes no mention of it ?
The Lanc is doing three displays tomorrow, the last is at Santa Pod at 12.35 pm, so presumably she's coming from there and thence back to base at Coningsby.
This aeroplane is a reminder of the 55,000 men who died in RAF Bomber Command in WW 2, they received no campaign medal despite having the highest casualty rate out of the three armed services, and a dedicated RAF Bomber Command memorial has only just been started on.
Heroes all, and the noise of Merlin engines does things to people which are hard to explain. Long may it continue.

They had been to Santa Pod in Northamptonshire, going back to Conningsby via the east coast. A bit out of the direct path!
