Some advice please
« Posted: 02 May 2011 at 07:35 AM »
For the last three times my laptop has failed to open up correctly. The 'on' light is shining bright but nothing happens it just sits there looking black If I switch off and remove the battery for a few secs then start again it springs to life Any ideas? The first time I thought I must have not closed it down properly but have been very conscious of doing it correctly since then so its not that. If you do have any ideas can you speak in words of one syllable as techinology is not my middle name Many thanks in advance

The first thing I would try, is running it without the battery installed.
How old is the laptop? What is the battery life like? It's possible that the battery is failing and demanding too much current from the power supply on start up, when it's been off for a time.

Sorry I cant help here funky, did you try what Paul advised, having said that though, I dont see where my battery has an opening, I have a disc space, and 7 connecting points, my laptop is 9 months old, but reading your post made me think about mine, and how to get to it? Hope you soon get it resolved.

"Laptop about a year old and the battery says Fully charged 100%"
How long does the laptop last on the battery without mains power? That'll give you good indicator of the battery status.

What battery life does the laptop's spec. indicate? Mine only indicates about 2 hours, but I rarely use it on the battery. Obviously by not using the battery very much you don't do the battery any good and it does tend to shorten its life. What make of laptop is it? Finally is it still doing what you said it was in the OP?

I know that Paul has already asked this, but - have you tried running it without the battery - just on the mains? If so, does the same problem occur?
