There was an apparent "alien craft" landing in Rendlesham forest between the American airbases at Woodbridge and Bentwaters back in 1980 http://www.hyper.net/ufo/rendlesham.html and also documented extensively on Wiki.
It was authenticated by several military people including the deputy base commander. So to my time travel theory:

If time travel were to be invented at some time in the future it is likely that the project would be taken over by the military - probably the US military. If they wanted to make a test "flight" what time would they go to? Not the future because it might not exist so they would have to go to the past. Where would they go to? Would be safest to go to a place that they controlled - a military base maybe?
