My favourite place is the beach, especially now when the sun is shining. I think our sandy beach is the best in the country.

Also walking along by the Broads at Nicholas Everitt Park on a nice summer evening.

What do I like about Lowestoft? Lots of things -but then, having lived 95% of my life here I like to think of myself as a local but then, I’ve said this to people who were born here - and been told that I’m not “a local”. Perhaps I’m adopted! I was fortunate to spend my early years here during the immediate post-war years - when the fishing industry was still there, as was “The Grit” - the Beach Village - soon to have its long life end following the disastrous 1953 East Coast Floods.
We have very good, sandy beaches - compared beaches near-by which are mostly stones. The parks, the broads (not in the American sense!), the pace of life - still slower than places some 50 miles or so inland. I’m always aware when returning home from travelling - and, whether by road or rail - once you’re nearing the coast - the air seems to change with the addition of the
ozone
.
Yes, there are problems within the town - but I can’t imagine there are many places without problems. And it’s always worth remembering the saying that “The other man’s grass is always greener.”

I loved shopping in Lowestoft, walking to college (even in bitterly cold windy days!), the pubs, and especially the sea front. I wish I was there now!

But that can be a bit patchy when you get close.

Living in Lowestoft I am ten minutes from the lovely Suffolk coast and ten minutes from the peace and quiet of the Suffolk countryside (all times are cycling times
)...I wouldn't want to live anywhere else, unless I won the lottery, but that is another topic.
