Seconded Malcolm.

Derby, Matlock, Buxton, Bakewell, Derwent (Ladybower reservoir). Some lovely little villages and towns perfect for exploring, or just sitting outside a café and peoplewatching.

For me, it would be a trip to London and visit some of the museums and art galleries during the day and maybe a show in the evening.

I did a rail-sail to Jersey in 5 days. Went Monday train to London then Poole and catamaran, came back the Friday. All inclusive travel ticket to Jersey from local Station.

or.. a break in York. Lots to see and do. Quick train from Peterboro-York. plenty of B&Bs etc..
