Biggest blooper I have ever made « Posted: 09 April 2011 at 10:25 AM »

Hi all yes I am sort of kicking myself with a very large size 9.....

A while ago I thought about leaving Virgin and joining another ISP
Hey did this the other week crybaby2
Went with TalkTalk, car phone warehouse, best buy (call them what you want)
So the plain simple change with NO fuss or hassle went ahead, duh yer right!
Had a date for the Internet to be changed and Virgin turned us off, but did TT turn us on ? NOooooooooo ! BT did though?
even though TT are taking over the whole package ISP phone and line control, BT said "welcome" I rang them and they then corrected the error and WE had TT Internet and phone (well I thought so)
Went to log onto TT web site as package tels you to and set up various things on there. Mmm cant log in?
Rang TT help desk Arrrrrrgh !! so got through to getting set up and logged on to see "service NOT ACTIVE" went to send email from the site (cant its not active)
Rang TT and got told there is engineer work being carried out (nothing was mentioned before) so OK Internet is slow but on and the phones work ? duh not after that call! we only have an engaged tone now but if I ring my own number from my mobile it rings and rings and rings (but not in the house)
Rang TT (from mobile) even bigger ARrrrrrgh.... "there is an outage in my area and they are sorry but services will be returned as soon as possible" I said that I had Internet slow but had it the chap then told me I did NOT have any service as there was an outage?
Went on to the TT web page and sent a notice to cancel the service email, got a call (on mobile) from TT saying I was not answering my TT home phone? and why do I want to leave (yada yada yada best offer have discount yada yada) the phone is still only giving an engaged tone (BT) are not able to investigate as TT are in control (used lightly) of the phone line and services.
So I am now searching for another ISP.
Yes get TalkTalk  ==== IF YOU DONT WANT TO TALK TALK TO ANYONE nono

Re: Biggest blooper I have ever made « Reply #1 Posted: 09 April 2011 at 10:48 AM »

I had TT at my door last week. He said i should not be paying for broadband and wanted to come in and chech my line to make sure i qualify. Thats the third time they have been here wanting to check my line. I dont do business with anyone who calls at my door on spec so they failed again.
I am not sure why they need to check my line. Its works ok. I do not trust them.

You should get one of those blue stickers Malcolm that say you do not wish to do business at your doorstep or something along that line.

Did you not investigate them then?  e.g. type "TalkTalk problems" into your search engine?

“Thinkbroad.com” has a forum section “ISP Unhappiness” - have a look there and go back to “Threads active in the last 2 weeks” for some user comments!
But I know people with them - and they’re very satisfied . . .

Did do lots of 'talking' to their customers and also looked at various comments about them most gave the impression they would be OK.
I may just be one of the unlucky ones who gets shafted by a company with no care (personal opinion there)

I moved from BT to TalkTalk last autumn.   No problems on changeover at all.   I was paying BT in excess of £40 a month for Broadband, phoneline, etc.   I now pay less than half that and my broadband is more stable.

Sounds like you are one of the unlucky ones, Nikkai.   crybaby2

I have been with talk, talk for about three years my bill with them aprox. £25.00 per month includinng phone calls evening & weekends free including Australia. my bills were halved when I changed from BT. BT ring me up two or three times a week, they should be taxed for every call they make to me.

NTL bought out Virgin Mobile, and then changed their own name to Virgin Media as the name Virgin has a better reputation than NTL ever did.  All that has happened is that the old lazy incompetent NTL tech support now answer the phones as Virgin Media tech support.

Re: Biggest blooper I have ever made « Reply #15 Posted: 09 April 2011 at 05:56 PM »

TT speed is around the 97 DL and 56 UL
It all depends on when I run a test and the old Virgin was very quick after 12.00 hrs but dead slow between the hours of 4 to eight I put that down to the schoolies getting on line after class.

I'm not sure what you mean by 97 & 56?    My current connected speeds are 1984 kbps (down) and 406 kbps (up)

Just seen your 6pm post.  You are fairly close to me so they are not good.

I know you live somewhere near Rainbow, CC. Nikkai.   When I was coming home from work yesterday lunchtime, BT Openreach were doing some work on on the underground cables along Ashburnham way on the opposite side to Rainbow.  Could have something to do with it.

Couple of days ago (8th) I got 8.36Mb/s (see below!) - a “one off” I think! Ran it again and it was 5.64 - mine averages 4.5 to 5.5Mbs.

If you want to see what speeds are being achieved near to your location - go to www.thinkbroadband.com.  When the home page opens - look at top left corner and there’s a small panel: "Broadband Map”.

Click on that and when the page opens in top left corner enter your post code.  Your location map opens - then - on the left-hand side - go to the third title down: “Speed Test Results” - and click on “enable”. This shows the latest results (updated daily by that site) from your area.

Re: Biggest blooper I have ever made « Reply #34 Posted: 10 April 2011 at 05:35 PM »

So the saga continues !
I still have no land line phone but I do have Internet (quite who is the provider I am not too sure) this is due to many phone calls and more emails to the TT customer services dept's and the cancellation dep's and I did manage to get through to an English speaking woman who listened to me then put me through to another English speaking chap who after a while agreed that I had sent a notification to cancel the contract.
He then went through questions like "why did  I not use the TT home phone?" and "If I had used the TT phone the call would have come direct to the service I wanted" when I said that the phone is NOT working he told me that he knew that but I could have called from the tt phone to report the fault of the engaged tone !

SO I have been onto BT and I will be one of the numbers of people their advert says have returned to them.

Well I did return Nikkai, reluctantly, but I have been so pleased I did, everything has been smooth I get good speeds and the customers service has been very good I truely havent regretted 'returning' it is not as cheap as orange, virgin, TT  but the stress is so mush less I was in tears a number of times ~(tears of anger) with orange before  and thats all gone now, and its not that much dearer about £2.00 a weekIt took me over a year to make the decision to change ( I m very tolerent ) but I m glad I did

BT cant take the line back until the 'fault' is identified by TT who are saying that as I have canceled the priority of MY case is now LOWER than the very high priority it was on which is lower than the high priority it was on before ?
I do feel a little happier now that I have had emails form BT saying that they will endeavour to put me onto the package as soon as they can, and TT have sent a "sorry your leaving, is there anything we can do to keep you" mail which I have replied to with "Sort out the line fault and never bother me again"

I do too FC, I logged onto the TT 'my account' and it states that it is INACTIVE ?
I logged onto the BT account and it is also INACTIVE ? no bill or usage

The TT router is ON and I have Internet via that unit ? it maybe a little slow but hey ho its working but who is paying for it, I know there is going to be a price as you get nothing for nothing in this life
