I Love Lowestoft!

My daughter thinks she will be able to hear it turning and she lives off Field Lane

Website

I'm sure she will if the wind is in the right direction - you can hear the Lowestoft one quite a way away if the wind's coming from the east.

I remember some people complained when Gulliver first started up about the low 'whump' sound through the ground, but nothing much has been heard recently about that.  Wonder if this would have the same issue.

Well im all for the windturbines. They will be a tourist attraction and its better than having a big power station built beside your house Im looking forward to seeing them. But must admit the roads in this area are terrible and then people wonder why no business comes to this area. The roads dont allow it.

There is a company in Denmark called Vestas who make these giants and someone there was telling me they are planning machines with 100m blades.

Hi all, I must say I for one detest these wind farms. They destroy all the lovely scenery.I can not see how they can be a tourist attraction as most people are used to seeing them in there area anyway, also I have read they will never pay for themselves.

Utilising the power of the wind is nothing new! -  it kept the world going for many centuries. Just think of all the mills that dotted the countryside (and towns) many moons ago. Did people complain of the 'squeaks and groans' that they made I wonder? One stood for many years in the middle of Oulton Broad (the mill house in Bridge Road is still there). There was also one close to St.Margaret's Church in St.Margaret's Road (again the mill house still stands). Did people complain then of these structures spoiling the view? -  those who complain these days nonetheless look upon old pictures/paintings of a Broadland scene with windmills as something nice to look at. There's no pleasing some people !- yet they want to flick a switch and expect their electrical appliances to come on. If the electricity is being generated by wind power or tidal power etc.,  what's the problem?

I believe that most parts are made abroad, which questions why these could not have been transported by ship, into one of the local ports,Lowestoft or Yarmouth, this would have caused less stress to those stuck in traffic behind these monster, and distance from the ports to Kessingland would have been on better roads,I think if I was a resident in Farnham and had seen these arriving I would have checked on my house insurance, shows how skillful these drivers are!
