Ofcom acts to cut home phone and broadband prices
« Posted: 31 March 2011 at 10:22 PM »
The cost of home telephone and broadband services could come down after telecoms regulator Ofcom moved to reduce the wholesale price.
It has revised the list of rates that Openreach, which manages BT's network, can charge other providers for using its services.
In some cases, the wholesale price could fall by more than 10% per year.
The move could benefit companies such as TalkTalk and Sky, but not Virgin Media which uses its own cable network

to dull article.
I’ll believe when I see proof of a reduction in the costs!

I don't think I'll bother reading that Link, Trigger if, as you say, it's 'dull'

Shame we haven't got Virgin cableTV/fibre broadband. They planned Lowestoft to be 'cabled' but run out of money before it got constructed; back in the late 90's. ..

I remember back in the late 90's when I used to commute between Lowestoft and Bury St. Edmunds there was cable-laying taking place on virtually the entire route and I thought at the time that it was possibly something to do with that. Never did find out what it was that they were laying.

Lowestoft - Bury St.Eds I think was part mercury which was taken over by Cable and Wireless AND also EGT (Eastern Group Telecoms) had some work going on. Nothing to do with Lowestoft cableTV plan though. This was planned to be fed from Norwich via Great Yarmouth down to Lowestoft....
Just to confuse things I think EGT were then taken over by Cable & Wireless too, who also took over BCM (BellCableMedia) the cableTV Co. Then all was mixed up and Virgin bought the Cable TV and telephone part i.e. ex-BCM network, which has its own fibre links too. The rest was returned to Cable & Wireless....
