Yes, they are the scum of the earth.  Disgusting how they have no respect for other people's property.

The trouble is catching the b*****ds at it and when you do, the punishment they get is sod all and doesn't act as a deterrent not to do it again, it's the same as arson, people setting fire to gorse on Gunton Cliffs, which has happened a lot since the start of the year even though its winter....

If it is over 1.5 meters and so long as you put a sign up warning you can put prikka strips on the top of you fence and anti climb paint. I would get conformation on this but it is something i am considering. Every Friday night youths are hanging around the Spar shop everytime i contact the so called "community support" officers they say they cannot do anything, unless they damage or harm my property or someone. Apparently they are allowed to be a nuisance on a public road Roll Eyes

Yes but if a youth cut themselves whilst trying to break in, i could get arrested and prosecuted. I turned my garden into a driveway and had big gates put on, but it does not seemed to have deterred people. On two occasions before Christmas i have found my gates have been pulled open.

That to me is exactly where the problems lie.  The homeowners (the victims) are not allowed to protect themselves or their belongings, because if they did, then THEY will be the ones in trouble with the law instead of the ones trying to harm them or their property.   The criminals have more rights and that is just unbelievably wrong to me Angry

It may be science-fiction, but I always wanted those laser cannons as shown on the Simpsons, that work on motion sensing and protect your property.

I don't believe there is a legal minimum height for spikes or anti-climb paint.
However the standard guide is that they should be used above head height.

So not 1.5 metres. Usual height is 2m.
And you must erect regular easily seen warning signs.

You have the right to protect your home using reasonable means. So yes you can use nasty spikey scary things, but you must do it in a way that shows you've thought about protecting innocent public. That's why you should only put anti vandal measures where only vandals might touch. i.e above head height.

Also, even though they might be breaking in to your garden, you must still warn any intruders of the security measures you have put in place. Remember the idea is to deter intruders, not tempt them in to injure them.

Sorry, but I disagree.  I don't see the need for any warnings, other than maybe a "Beware of the dog" sign lol.  It should just be assumed and common sense that your property should be/is  secure.  It is personal, private property afterall,  not public.    If someone feels tempted to do anything, then that is their own personal problem and they need to act responsibly.  If not, then face the music.  We all may feel different temptations in life....it doesn't mean that you act on them, but if we do, we have to realize that there may be consequences!

The only reason i feel warnings need to be advertised is if an elderly person or someone vulnerable needed help but access to the property couldn't be gained unless a back yard wall or fence was climbed, then i wouldn't want a carer or paramedic trying to climb a wall and lacerate themselves on some hidden razorwire put there sometime previously.

i just ask people to take a care if you got animals like cats or rabbits these people are not above hurting the animal if it of a type that makes noise rabbits thump and it can scare wits out of you.these people first reaction is to kick the animal or worse.keep them in or rabbits in garages.
these things are being taken to order,if you having door bells rang no one there then they checking see what type of bell and how long it takes you to answer door
