Morrisons coming to north lowestoft
« Posted: 08 March 2011 at 10:05 PM »
Hi guys its a fairly long way off but i have been told from a good source that morrisons will be coming to north key retail park within the next 12 months. They will be moving into the current AHF building and AHF will move to next to dreams. Its all awaiting planning permission but so far it has the green light. The sight at pakefield will remain open.I think it would be a good shop for those north of the town.As i say it could be up to a year before it happens but they are planning on doing it.Perhaps it might be like asda and sell more electrical and clothes too as the shop at pakefield is mainly food.

I have heard this too, but it seems it goes through everyone else's ears and everyone tells a different version! It has not got planning permission as far as i know because since the beginning of January it has not been on this site. I know they want to open in North Lowestoft, but i do not know if AHF are moving, just have to wait.

I wish someone would come to the town centre and not all go on these darned industrial estates to start with they look terrible not an ounce of character and secondly we dont all have cars and even if we do we are being encouraged to use them less and shop more regularly and we can only do that with some central stores

But Morrisons at North Quay would be local for me and it would enable me to do my main shop without using the car.
Remember that most people do not live in the town centre and need to use some kind of transport wherever the stores are.

I understand your point morty1753, having a large all in shop close to you is an advantage but the "town" where the community is said to emanate from is in need of lots of diversity and variety to maintain itself to be that very community hub.
I find that a walk around market towns like Diss is far better than a bustle around Tescos or Sainsburys etc

But then I am a man so shopping, to me, is a chore.
I am sure my wife would agree with you nikkai because, to her, shopping is a joy, or even a full time occupation.

I agree funky - we could do with at least one more shop selling fruit and veg - who remembers Craiks?
In the town centre - there’s only Tesco plus the market on a few days. Tesco has stock but availability varies as does the quality. I’ve gone in there for loose potatoes - only need a few, and sometimes there’s none- or they’re so old and “past their sell-by date” - that I use frozen chips instead!
