Probably kept from freezing over by ducks swimming round & round in circles in that spot.
I remember seeing ducks do the same on the Norfolk Broads when they froze over in the 1980s.

Let's just hope the ducks didn't go in ever-decreasing circles.

One museum that was open was the Ancient House, where I met Mr. Newton who lived their in 1901 he certainly looked good for his age  Wink Certainly well worth a visit if you are in the area. More about the Ancient House here

There's more room than it's looks Boatbuilder, bigger barges go under the bridge .Only ever seen one stuck ,it was one that had been converted to a home but the person who owned had cut extra windows too low and because of that could n't take on ballast ,it's still moored here .

Came across this statue of the Maharajah Duleep Singh on my visit to Thetford last week. Maharajahs are not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Thertford, I thought maybe he was the person who opened the first Indian take-away in Norfolk...but no, more about him here Duleep Singh

Re: February 2011 - General Images « Reply #32 Posted: 18 February 2011 at 12:13 PM »

Those pictures bring back memories for me, Kerch.  Back in 1984 (on the 11th/12th October to be precise) I went to that region on a business trip and had the opportunity to look round Albi and the Cathedral.   I remember at the time they were renovating the 'old' part of the city and it looked really lovely.  I would have liked to have gone back some years later to see it but have never had the chance.   Do you by any chance have any pictures of that part?  If so would love to see them.

You might well ask how I remember it was those exact dates.   It's like many other notable dates - Where were you when.........?

The 12th October was the date of the bombing of the Grand Hotel in Brighton during the Conservative Party Conference.      My colleague and I had heard nothing about it until we boarded our connecting flight from Paris to Manchester in the evening of the 12th and were given copies of the Manchester Evening News on board and there it was splashed all over the front page. Our French hosts has said nothing about it to us that morning -  that's of course if they knew about it.
